- They want to tax soda to pay for universal health care? Really? If they are truly concerned about the health of Americans, why don't they offer to have free memberships to the YMCA, or another company. We might be able to exercise more, if it was available for free. What is next? We already pay rediculous prices just for water.

- I understand where people are coming from when they say that if you let them tax something like soda that it opens the door for taxes on other products down the road. However, we have to realize that obesity related problems are now one of the biggest if not the biggest health-care issue the government has to spend money on. I hate to be cynical about this, but if the government has to spend more money every year because it's citizens don't know how to take care of themselves and have very poor nutrition which leads to them having health problems involving obesity that the government has to help pay for, you're damn right the government has the right to tax one of the causes of this problem to make their money back.

- Amazing that only the sweetened drinks will be taxed. Anyone getting this??? I can't drink unsweetened or artifically sweetened drinks. And this is supposed to help with weight on healthcare? I have other idea's. Lets put some of congress on scales just like the rest of us its not easy. But they have the funds to pay for it! They're our funds!! think about it!! I'd rather have sugar than the unsweetened chemicals that are crap for most people and more deadly to others than I'd like to tell you about.

- Man oh man it never ends does it. Once they start taxing soda and less people start consuming it, next thing you know they will start taxing us for mileage in our cars. The IRS will send you a new 10-W form something and you will have to write down your mileage for that year then they will caculate for the mileage you had the previous year and tax you like 1 cent for ever 100 miles. Opps I better not talk loud someone might here me.

- I can't believe how naive some of you are. Ever heard of the phrase divide and conquer? It doesn't matter who you vote into office, they are going to screw you over in some form or another. Find a candidate that speaks truly for the people instead of waiting until next time so you can vote you party in. Pretty convenient to just vote based on political party without really knowing what the people you vote into office are all about. I suggest you do some research and find the people who will represent you. Until then, don't vote.

- Fat chance they'll make any money off of me. I'm lucky if I drink soda 3 or 4 times a year. I drink coffee most of the time. Maybe I shouldn't say that---that will be the next thing they tax.

- "While many factors promote weight gain, soft drinks are the only food or beverage that has been shown to increase the risk of overweight and obesity, which, in turn, increase the risk of diabetes.... "
Okay, so what's next? A tax on Coffee? Since it has a risk of stained teeth, potentualy raised risk of heart attacks, Stress levels, Stomach problems? - Reply to this comment
