"Specter leaving the party due to fears of ultra-conservatives targeting him as not being extremist enough is another sign of how insane the republican party has become."
skeezix06

Indeed fellow citizen.

But remember, Obama has fought in court to maintain all of Bush's unconstitutional powers, and even expanded upon them with his stunning and frightening "state sovereignty" argument, which he states allows him to spy on any American, without warrant, even if they are not communicating outside of America.

So we are not yet safe, for our Constitution has not been restored, and is in fact in continued subversion by Obama.

So let us fight to assure that the Democrats do not become as insane with power as the Republicans once were.

Or they will lose the support of non-partisan voters such as myself, just like the Republicans did.

I have but one thing to say to the honorable Senator Arlen Specter.

George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin are looking down upon you now and they are well pleased. Very well pleased.

It's really sad that being called a Republican is becoming more and more synonymous with being a conservative. It wasn't like this before the Dixiecrats infected the Republican party. Nixon should be rolling over in his grave. He truly brought the Republican party over to the dark side.

I can't help but think that one of the reasons that made it so much easier for Arlen Specter to jump to the Democrats was the way that President Obama asked the Democrats to treat Joe Lieberman, who spoke at the Republican National Convention against him and campaigned against him. Democrats had plenty of reasons to throw Lieberman overboard (and a number of Democrats wanted to) and strip him of his committee chairmanship, but now he is still a fairly reliable Democratic vote on several major issues. Conservatives, on the other hand, couldn't wait to tar and feather Specter due to his vote on the economic stimulus package and were mounting a major effort to unseat him...effectively driving him out of the party. Because there are more than a million more registered Democrats than Republicans in Pennsylvania, Specter will be re-elected next year and there will be no new conservative senator from Pennsylvania. Now, President Obama has both Joe Lieberman and Arlen Specter on his side. And what do the conservatives have to show for their efforts?

Arlen has left the dark side and walked towards the light. The ditto-heads are just going to have to come up with more hate speech since it has worked so well up to now.

Sen Mitch McConnell's contention that 'Spector's defection is a threat to the nation,' is completely off the mark. The truth is that it is McConnell & other Authortarian Fascists like him who are the true threat to the nation.
******************************

No kidding. Everytime I look at that little myopic weasle McConnell, and hear him talk, I just about throw up. I can not imagine the type of folks who would elect a worm like him, and KEEP electing him. No accounting for taste I guess.

Spector said today, "The Republican Party has moved farther & farther to the Right. . ." No kidding, Arlen! The fact of the matter is that the GOP has moved so far to the Extremist Right on the political spectrum that they have been governing from the perspective of advancing the agenda of Authortarian Fascism.

The only entity which has prevented them from moving completely into that political realm is the US Constitution. But even there, under Reagan & Bush II, the GOP has been successful at undermining a great many Constitutional protections & laws which Americans used to take for granted.

And the reason for this movement toward Right Wing Extremism by the GOP? Answer - total self-centered selfishness, greed, & a quest for unbridled Authortarian/Totalitarian power.

Mitch McConnell took his shot today at trying to portray the GOP brand of propaganda. But he had it backwards, as usual. It is the GOP & GOP operatives like him who are the true threat to the Republic.
