- Priceless, absolutely priceless! The most liberal president ever and he burned more carbon than any president in history on the liberal's beloved Earth Day. What else is there to say other than "hypocrite". Amazingly, CBS (who, along with ABC, CNN and especially NBC helped him get elected) even reported this fact. Credit to CBS on this one.

- Obama has missed a great opportunity... Since he always seems to be fastened to the teleprompter, in front of him, he should have just done Earth Day from a studio, with a green screen, behind him.... He could have made his speech from a mountain meadow, in Colorado, a flood ravaged river town, in North Dakota, a melting glacier in Antartica, or any number of other places...... His minions could then tell that world that he is truly omnipresent.

- I enjoyed my Earth Day celebration by burning tires in my yard and smoking a good cigar after felling seven trees. I sure wouldn't waste jet fuel like OB.

- Actually, double the consumption numbers, because there is always a second Air Force One parked at a nearby base in case of an emergency.

- Funny, he flies to a plant that only manufactures the towers for wind turbines. The actual wind turbines are manufactured in Europe. I know of no manufacturer of the wind turbine in the US.
It reminds me of the contractor who supplies a basketball goal post, but the court is purchased and installed from a source in Holland. - Reply to this comment
- techguy9876, you seem like an intelligent person. So, I gotta ask: do you watch the news? We, the viewers, readers, etc, are constantly being hectored by by CBS and the rest of the media about what carbon bigfoots we are. Is is truly "irrellevant" that these reporters are expense-account hypocrites? I respectfully disgree with you. I hope you'll give the topic more thought.

- At 5 gallons per mile a 747 carrying a lite load of 300 passangers get 60 miles per gallon per passanger. Does your ride get those numbers?
Useless article indeed - Reply to this comment
- Between Obama and Pelosi with their big jets anything goes. Shame taxpayers are being ripped to the core.

Bush made over 1,675 - more than 200 flights in each of the last eight years.
At a cost of $56,518 per hour.
The average annual cost of all trips = $185,000.000.

How did you get to be a reporter after al when ten seconds of googling got me these answers??? - Reply to this comment
- jimeo722, the press didn't make a speech about conserving energy, Obama did. The point of Knoller's article is that Obama burned a large amount of fuel and resources to travel and make a speech about conservation. I'm not an Obama fan, but I don't care that he had to travel to have the right setting for a speech as we all know location and image make a big difference in this culture. However, whether the press could have saved money in fuel is not relevant.

- You know I don't really care, and apparently nobody else does either. As long as our lord and saviour has an airplane, can bankrupt my grandchildren's financial future and enrich his own bank account for years to come, of course being written in the history books as the greatest President our country has ever had.....yep, that should do it. And Sean Connery asked in the Untouchables......"What are you prepared to do?"

- We should all celebrate Earth Day, but we should change the name to Holly Maddox Day. One of the founders of Earth Day, in 1970, was Ira Einhorn. Ira attended Pennsylvania University and his girl friend, Holly, attended Bryn Mawr. She broke off a 5 year relationship with him, and in exchange, he murdered her. He hid her body in a trunk in the closet of his apartment. When the stench got too bad the neighbors informed the police. While on bail, Ira escaped to Europe where he lived for years. Chric stood in the way of extredition.

- You fail to recognize that the carbon footprint is actually several times that which you report. The Presidential party typically flies TWO 747's (the one the President is on plus an identical 747 as backup), plus a large (C17?) cargo plane carrying limousines and helicopters, plus staff aircraft, plus press aircraft, plus pre-visit flights by secret service to scout the area....... the carbon footprint is HUGE !!!!!

- Yeah, we should make the president fly Southwest. Hopefully his staff will check him in early enough to get an "A group" boarding card! Or, better yet, he should take Amtrak. I'm sure he'd get there on time. Drudge Report readers are becoming dumber, angrier, and more bitter by the day.

- You have to TRIPLE the fuel. The C-5 to carry Marine 1, and the C-5 to carry the ground vehicles. If the above posts are correct, then you have to quadruple (taking into consideration the sister AF-1). 4x9000= 36,000 gallons.
Or roughly 40,000 people commuting "to and from" work (like he did). - Reply to this comment
