- As a native Texan, it is always painful and embarrassing
when our elected Texas officials engage in Texan jingoism. If Texas did secede, we would have to give up all Federal assistance for the millions who receive social security, disability and other forms of assistance.
Texas would also become a meaner place than it already is because of the delusional mythology of the independent individual. The Houston area has one of the highest rates of prenatal death statistics. Texas has one of the poorest records of taking care of the indigent. If we had to depend on ideologues like Governor Perry to lead us, we would soon devolve into chaos.
President Obama is doing just fine. He's the first President since Roosevelt to address the whole shebang. He's on the right track and Texans had better do well to listen, and get on board rather than singing the whine song. Measured dissent is OK, as long as it is constructive, but have a viable alternative, not dead ideology.
President Bush and the Republican Party ran the U.S. into the ground. President Obama will get us back on track. Obama's a true uniter, not a divider like W. was.

I do vividly recall your solidified and very close proximity to the dorsal posterior waste opening of both Bush #1 and Georgie #2. #2 approved enough funds to be disbursed in his last 3 months to have run most governments for a year or much longer! Do you really think your constituents are senile AND stupid? BS! You are in eminent, public domain and I can disagree and even be disrespectful of your lack of genuine leadership in TX or anywhere demonstrating your ursury of voters' trust and approval. - No fan of Texas, I still do have to appreciate the guts it takes to talk openly of secession.
Based on the founding father's intent... and my interpretation of the same, secession is almost a duty to those states who find critical, unremedied and repeated failures in the federal system. I do not believe that secession means a permanent dissolution of the US but it would certainly lead to a major shake up that could bring our whacky federal government back into line with original intent... a nation of, by and for the people... and not bureaucracy for the sake of itself. - Reply to this comment
