- Hey, Joe...
If you'd put some controls on the banks when you passed that giant bailout you wouldn't be begging them not to embarrass you now.
This would be funny if we weren't going broke. - Reply to this comment
- Glad to see we have involved adults running the government again. Bushie would have just thrown the money out to his "contractor" friends with NO BID CONTRACTS, and told them to spend it ANY WAY THEY WANTED.
After 8 YEARS of 5 TRILLION DOLLARS OF ADDED DEBT AND NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT, we have people in power who actually CARE what happens to the country.
Bushie and his RUMP GOP CRIMINALS must be crying in their pillows. - Reply to this comment

- Hmmm...
Mr. Biden is well known for being a big bag of flatulently hot air.
If there are going to be strings attached to economic stimulus funds, the government needs to issue a set of guidelines on what projects are satisfactory or not.
Instead of badgering state and local governments about what they can or cannot do with the money, Mr. Biden could show up with picket signs in front of the houses of the 73 AIG newly found millionaires.
Now, that would really be doing something. - Reply to this comment
- Let?s see, temporary work created building a new swimming pool: architect, various engineers, general contractor and many employees, various trade sub-contractors and their employees, various pool and office equipment manufacturers. I?m probably forgetting a few groups of people. People who would gain permanent employment from a new swimming pool: administrators, front desk workers, janitors and maintenance people, lifeguards, coaches, plus occasional work would go to equipment various repair workers. Now let?s look at building and maintaining a new road or highway project: to build it: a civil engineer, a highway/road contractor and employees. To maintain it: a re-surfacing crew every what, 5 to 10 years or so? But the pool doesn?t pass the ?smell test??

- Private business owners are barely keeping things together, sales are off 20 to 30%, forget about driving anything to the bottom line. We are forced to downsize, lay offs are essential just to stay in business in a contracting global economy. I am sick and tired of hearing about teachers worried about layoffs, or government employees getting upset about getting hours cut. Everyone is in pain why should you be exempt? Every Firefighter, Teacher, Policeman, Sheriff and other Government employee should thank us Taxpayers you have a secure job.

- jamesguy - the first part of your argument is perfect, then you lose all your credability when you drag in the Iraq, or Afganistan argument. Be smarter and keep your points pure, and not diluted.

- Where does one find statistics regarding the prevention of accidental drowning?

- Good for him. Our state, OR, has already decided to use some of the stimulus money to bolster up revenue loss in the general fund. Without it, we would be laying off teachers right and left in school districts all over the state, because tax revenues are down due to the job loss. It would be very irresponsible to be initiating new projects at this time that did not serve a clear and defined need. The largest city in OR is Portland - and they are looking at spending economic development money on trying to get major league soccer to come to the city. Most city residents think it's a stupid idea and are pissed about the money wasted. While stimulus money isn't going directly to the city, there's some money going from the state to the city - and if the stimulus funds were not being sent to the state, the state would cut those city funds to Portland. Hopefully, Biden will visit Portland and knock some sense into the city council.

- Swimming pools are very important to the health of a community, and have been proven to prevent accidental drowning. A swimming pool is much a much better use of tax money than, say, an unprovoked war on a sovereign nation.
