Buy American, We have a 1997 Saturn, made in Spring Hill, Tenn. We get 33 mpg. We keep it serviced, we keep it clean. Our insurance is low because we drive without accidents. It''s a great little car, so it''s not new, neither am I. Not everyone wants a new car. Some of these new cars being made don''t get the gas milage we get on our Saturn. We haven''t had car payments in years. What a great feeling that is. We keep it serviced, oil changes, etc. We had 99.880 miles on it before we had the spark plugs changed. Saturn dealer said we should have waited until 100,000 before changing sparks as they were still o.k. We changed radiator fluid, tranmission fluid etc and we now have 128,000 miles on the little Pearl. Our dealer takes your picture when you have 100,000 miles on your car, then at 200,000 and up. The picture at the top of the heap has 300000 miles on it and climbing. Buy American

I will agree with you there. In our schools autistic kids are streamlined. What that does is require the teacher to spend all their time on that one kid to the detriment of others. I don''t understand when it became a bad thing to put these kids in special ed programs. Which is another problem I suppose because there is no funding for special education teachers either.

Instead of spending less than $26 billion on No Child Left Behind (NCLB), this law should be should be corrected as Obama had promised during his campaign. Foe example, NCLB requires districts to test retarded kids and include that in annual progress. One angry mother at a school board meeting exlaimed that her retarded child doesn''t even know that it is being tested, yet that score is included for NCLB.

We need to scrap NCLB and start expecting accountability where it matters, with the parents. Why do we hold our schools accountable but not the parents?

The No Child Left Behind is cr**. I have a friend who is a teacher and she says, along with other teachers that this was started by Bush and it isn''t working. The teachers are overloaded with work because of it and the policy''s that go with it. What good is No Child Left Behind when the drop out rate of teenagers is so high. Many teen girls are having babies when they are 12-13 years old. The boys, hang in the hood and don''t go to school either. They get in the hood by making a baby with a girl..We have so many children who are having children, how does this square with "No Child Left Behind". When these teenagers quit school and have babies, their Childhood IS left behind. I am a senior citizen, I have never met my parents, it has followed me all my life. If you think your child won''t be affect by not have two parents, your lying to yourself.

Absolutely, when did it become a bad thing to purchase goods from your own country (protectionism). What''s wrong with that with our buying power we would do well to by more american products and screw the rest.

Your Right NCLB is a joke. Not because schools are averting it but because schoold like my childrens in an upscale neighborhood are eliminating everything except math and science and spending the rest of the time teaching to the test. Why?, because our school already has high achievement and under NCLB you have to show improvement every year. That becomes harder and harder the better the school is.

The tax that won''t have to be paid on new cars, should only be for cars Made in America. I don''t give a da** about foreign trade. Everything in the stores is Made in China. Our steel plants here in Illinois are closing, all due to cheap steel from China. Close the doors at the gates, we can and have taken care of ourselves here in America. We don''t owe any other country anything except the trillions of $$$$$$$ we owe to China. Our politicans have sold our souls, the souls of our children, the souls of our grandchildren for a fast buck from China. I don''t care what Obama nor any other politicans say, Buy American, the job you save will probably be your own. Stop using your credit cards, the CEO"s of the banks get millions of dollars in bonus money the more you use your card. Cut up the plastic, it will cost you your house, your car. Don''t use these credit cards that have 32% interest, cut them up. Close your account yourselfs and tell them you want a letter from them saying you closed it yourself. If you don''t the credit bureau''s will lower your credit score. These credit bureau''s are being run by the banks and mortgage companies. Stop paying these rich people. Buy American. You can find American goods at thrift stores, that''s where we shop now. Stop buying junk toys from China, there dangerous to your children anyway.

So, there are 150 million workers (some curretnly looking for work) in America who will share a new tax bill of $900 Billion. That is an average of $6,000 per worker when they all get jobs. So, we all just got a pay cut of $6,000. Doesnt sound like stimulus to me. Now Obama will tell you he is goign to pay that bill by taxing "the rich". But it isnt going to work that way. They will only raise their prices (thats why they are called "the rich") that you and I pay.

So, bottom line, you are going to get a tax "refund" of $400 and a tax bill of $6,000. Aint government grand?

That''s rich. These spending proposals will generate more spending and thereby more jobs. This creates more income to those of us working stiffs. We pay more taxes on that higher income which generates more tax income thereby paying for a portion of this stimulus package. So the cost is much smaller than you are letting on. BTW if I pay more taxes but the tax rate does not that means I am making more money either way I get more money, the government gets more money and in the end something good has been doen for OUR country. Compare that to the last 8 years where the only person to benefit from our tax cutting and spending were the super rich and Iraq.

"America has a strong economy and a surplus.... Now is the time to reform the tax code and share some of the surplus with the people who pay the bills."
--George W. Bush, nomination acceptance speech, August 3, 2000

After his election in 2001, Bush and a Republican-led congress reduced income taxes, with the majority of the tax cuts going America''s wealthiest individuals. With the introduction of Bush''''s tax cuts, budget deficits resumed immediately, so that by the end of Bush''s eight-year term, the national debt had doubled from $5 trillion to $10 trillion.
