After wars based on lies, redefining the Geneva conventions, retroactive immunities and finessing of the laws and Constitution to suit one political agenda or another (like torture, the war, illegal immigration, patriot act, etc) we ALL--no matter which party--should be hesitant and leery of ANY action which requires exceptions, sleight of hand or back handed interpretation of the Constitution to suit the desires of individuals--including the President Elect.

This is remarkable; the DEMOCRATS were in charge for ALL of the last 8 years, and the only thing a President can do is to sign or veto laws sent to him by the Party that controls all-powerful Congress?? The President drafts the budget and sends it to Congress (who can tinker with it, but it doesn''t go into effect unless the President approves the final product). The President is the Commander in Chief, and is the only office holder who is elected by the entire country. The decision to go to war in Iraq was BUSH''S DECISION, approved by an overwhelming majority of Republicans and a smaller number of Democrats.
Besides, even if your misreading of American History was correct -- ie, that Congress really runs the show, how can you say the Democrats ran Congress for the LAST EIGHT YEARS??!! The Republicans had solid majorities in both houses for SIX of those years, from 2000 through 2006.
