If his aides tell him he got 100 messages I'm sure he won't care.
If they tell him he got 1,000 messages he proly won't care.
But if they tell him there's been More messages telling you to compromise than there are voters to vote for you......he'll think about listening!

It's a shame that the republicans would cause the possible elimination of social security and other programs that the regular man has worked for and earned as a right -- while be willing to continue to give the humongous tax breaks and shelters to oil companies, big business and corporations. It's really sad, because some folks don't like Obama, ... that they are willing to sacrifice America just to make their point. Sacrificing the common man, the elderly, the middle class and the poor. But, alas, you've made Obama look bad. But, what does that really say, except how selfish they really are? Oh yeah, and keep on telling us -- 'it's good for the country,' while we stand in the soup line. If the deal doesn't pass, the next election will be a blood bath for republicans. Current republican congressman can kiss their seat goodbye! Cause, it's these 'little people' that you are hurting now, that will become the Giants who will vote you out of office!

What is really sad is that so many of you don't understand that this has nothing to do with what Obama wants or doesn't want. The issue is do we want to cut spending now, including on Social Sec & other entitlement programs or do we want to cut out all spending inthe very new future when all the revenue the Fed receives will need to be used to service our debt.
Jeepsrule replies:

No, what this really is about is meeting our obligations. This Congress has to decide to met our obligations or do we default. The GOP has made this an issue, where there is not issue. They already voted for a budget for 2011 now they need to pay for it and raising the debt ceiling will do that. Instead the GOP is making this a spending issue when it is an obligation issue. The GOP can talk debt and budget after this; for 2012 and beyond. This is not the time or place for political grand standing by the Tea Party idiots in the House.

Last night the GOP made it painfully obvious they have only in one thing in mind; getting the President out of office. If it means driving the country off the economic cliff again, so be it. They are not fooling the majority of Americans only the simple minded gullible one's are falling for this GOP BS. Boehner claimed that the cut, cap and balance was a bipartisan bill. That is a straight out lie. Only five Democrats voted in the House for that bill, so how is that bipartisan. The Senate voted party line on it, so how is it bipartisan. The GOP can not be trusted they lie, they have lied about this President from the day he was elected. They lied about his citizenship, they lied about the Healthcare Act, they lied about his religion. They spend so much time lying about this President we can't achieve a simple debt limit increase. That in the past was nothing more than a one line bill that receives an up or down vote. The Treasury gave the House this bill last January and they refused to vote on it, because they wanted to use the debt limit increase as a political weapon against the President, by holding the economy and the American people hostage.

The problem is Boehner. He can't deliver his own party. You negotiate with him, get close to a deal, and he comes back with "my party wouldn't go along". Talking to him is like negotiating the direction of a cart with the horse. It may be in front, but it doesn't control anything.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America 's debt limit
is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government can
not pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing
financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's
reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America 's debt weakens us
domestically and internationally. Leadership means that 'the buck stops
here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today
onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt
problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

It is past time to stop giving our future away to foriegn governments aand non US citizens. With all the funds in foreign aid and the hidden amounts in outher departments budget at least 25% of each years budget leaves the country and does nothing to help the US worker or get more income (taxes) for any government. That combined with giving all of our jobs away to foriegn countries making even less available for taxes and putting more demand on social services is extremely counterproductive. The following will correct these inequities by making GREED illegal. You have hate crimes now we need aws for greed crimes. Here are some ways to accomplish that.
1) Cut all funding for foriegn governments and non US citizens, that includes the UN and NATO.
2) The cost to find and extract oil for the US and its terrritorial waters is $15/barrel give a 10% profit that means the companiy should get $16.50 per barrel and everything between that and market price should go to the federal government. That by itself woulod balance the budget.
3) Make all natural resources (oil, trees, etc) that are produced in the US be completely processed in the US. Currently our oil is sent roo Europe and Mexico for refinement losing many American jobs and raising the price.
4) Make a law that says the anyone who buys a commodity future MUST take physical delivery and perform one step in preparing it for market. If sold before thaking delivery then the entire sales price goes to the Federal govenment (no credit for purchase price). Stop letting people raise our prices without adding value. This would reduce inflation and eventually lead to lower labor prices.
5) Tax the real rich with this tax schedule:

Income Tax %
0-25000 0
25001-100000 15
100001-250000 28
250001-500000 50
500001-750000 75
750001-1000000 99
more than 100000 99.99999

That is because no one earns a million dollars they just take it-limit their greed. Make an excetion for gambling winnings only.

We need a large stable middle class for a decent tax basis. It taxes at least 20 people to move from middle class to poverty so one person can go from middle class to rich. It is not worth it and needs to be prevented.

6) Get a job loss tax for each job lost from the US to a foriegn country of $250000 per year per job. That should give companoies an incentive to keep jobs here. Make it retroactive for all jobbs moved out of the US in the last 20 years.

Doing all the above will balance the budget, pay down the debt and not screw Americans out of their life savings and hard earned retired pay. STOP THE GREED NOW.

I still maintain that the GOP wants to hang on to their tax cuts and all the other "perks" for the oil companies and corp jets, etc. at the expense of not just the eldery, low income, but now even the whole middle class. They go on to claim that these tax cuts for the wealthy are necessary so they can create jobs and by taxing them more (or even their fair share) that we stand to lose the jobs they can create.

Where exactly are these jobs? They've had their tax credits for over 10 years now.

IDK, I'm not seeing it. The GOP is out for themselves, their lobbyists, and Obama - that's the bottom line.

personally, I think letting people hang onto as much of their hard-earned money is a good thing. And I also think that people who need the government to pay their bills are a pretty sad lot.

taxes pay the government's bills. I'm not against taxes. However, I do think the government should be fiscally responsible and live within it's means like the people who pay it's bills.

jgg000101 You mean the Oil company's getting $4B a year in subsides, Farmer getting billions in subsides and Corporations paying 0 taxes on profit. Is that the sad lot your talking about.

Mr. President I agree with your plan. Keep fighting for the American people, who for the most part are the ones that are less fortunate and struggle the most. Keep up fighting for the small businesses, and our children. Don't let Speaker Boehner, get you down, we all know what he is striving for, at least I do. And it isn't for the same things you are fighting for. You have my vote in 2012. God Bless you!! I know you are doing your best to solve our debt problem and our economy. Again keep up the Good Fight.

the racist thing doesn't fly anymore. Obama could be polka dots and it wouldn't matter. When your only success (obamacare) is something most people don't want, you're in deep doo doo. Throw in unemployment, the economy, handling of the middle east and obama's abysmal record, actions and subsequent words far outweigh the color of his skin.

So the republicans turned the entire economy over to the wealthy, they imploded it, and Obama didn't fix it fast enough for you?

They gave the corporate world 6 full years to destroy it, and he only gets 2-1/2 years to undo what they did?

hungry, that doesn't fly anymore either. After three years, something, anything, should have improved. The opposite has happened. Everything has gotten worse. You simply cannot blame bush anymore. Sure, you can try, but anybody with half a brain knows it's a load of crap.

Dear jgg,

Please try to stay up to date. Obamacare, where support never trailed by more than 5 to 10 points, was up by 10 points in the last poll I saw. It's pretty much a dead even split.

The economy was inherited by Bush who ran up deficits while the economy was expanding which is always a bad idea. Now the Republicans want to go back to same policies that got us into this mess.

The "tax increases cost jobs" argument flies in the face of evidence. The biggest absolute tax increase in US history was under Clinton. The budget deficit melted away AND the US had the strongest, longest period of economic expansion in it's history. Reagan quietly rolled back much of his tax cuts and employment improved. The record says tax increases increase jobs. (Why this works baffles everybody).
