Republicans need to remember the three great lies:

The Check is in the mail.

Of course I'll respect you in the morning.

If you agree to raise taxes we will cut spending by an equal amount.

Hopefully Boehner will stop pouting and come out of his room to continue negotiations for the benefit of the country and not the GOP's rich supporters.

GOP could not be more audacious than to risk putting the country in peril based on their principles that the wealthy should not be asked to make any sacrifices but the burden should fall on entitlements, those who can least afford it. A country in decline led by the principles of greed. Sad.

EffortPA says:
Right now about 75% of the people in this country are asking congress to raise the taxes on the super rich and yet congress is refusing to do that. Keep in mind that regardless what the subject is, you will never get more than 80% of the people to agree on it. For example, did you know that only about 80% of the people believe that Mother Teresa was doing good deeds, or that only about 80% of the people like ice cream, or that only about 80% of the people believe we ever landed on the Moon, or that only about 80% believe the Earth revolves around the Sun. If Congress is hoping for a stronger message from the people, they are not going to get it, it is simply not possible. 75% is almost as loud of a message people can send. It is time for Congress to remember that in a Democracy the will of the people will always prevail. It is time for Congress to act!

Boehner is a puppet for the far right. They are undermining our nation's present needs. The real fix comes in November with the death of the GOP.

The GOP has hardly acted with fiscal prudence, not during Reagan, not during Bush. In 2011, for the House to step in at the 11th hour, to trumpet the horn for austerity, announcing that austerity will get America well again, is the opposite of the truth. If the House gets its way, they will lose elections eventually, as the fallout of austerity becomes clear.

Mr. Insane, the GOP no longer exists. The Tea Party won the votes of 28% of eligible American voters in 2010. Many of the members of the defunct Republican party would love to vote for someone else besides Obama or the Kochs.

...this is all really quite simple...the republicans get their campaign contributions from the very rich and in return they are following their orders to reduce their taxes

rich people with more stuff require more support from the federal infrastructure (including national defense) that's why they should pay more

Even the father of modern capitalism, Adam Smith, said so. Our richest Americans however have a great deal of success in convincing the peasantry that they don't deserve anything- that only the wealthy matter. They have also convinced themselves that Americans will never rise up against their masters. They are probably right.

JRC_903 says:
The Republicans have got themselves in quite a pickle. For that matter, they've gotten the county in quite a pickle. Oh sure-- some Democrats are not much better. But right now they appear to be about to take the fall for bringing down the greatest country the world has ever seen. This could all be avoided by simply doing the RIGHT THING NOW--regardless of what you said in the past---and accept the consequences. Conventional wisdom has it that people who get elected to the congress are so well healed financially that they can afford to serve their country with HONOR without worrying about where their next meal is coming from. The truth however, is that once they get that 150K/year salary they will do absolutely anything to keep it. ANYTHING. The country be damned. The rest of us folks(the ones making 60K/year--or less) can just sit by and watch these very non-patriotic monkeys take down the country. They are not debating what plan is better... they are actually debating whether the country will commit suicide or NOT.

I just tried to contact Boehner at speaker.gov, but on the websites' contact page, the contact form was not displaying. I then called his Washington DC number to have my say, but voice mail was full.
Mr. Boehner, negotiate in good faith. Cuts and revenues are in order. Stop being pig headed, get your house in order.

Austerity will not work. Boehner, got scared, bmallen3. He knows austerity will not work, and it will come back to haunt Republicans in the future, if the house has its way.

Democrats have agreed to cut spending in return for Revenue increases before. Each time they reneged. Obama has mentioned that Reagan increased taxes; he fails to mention that in return Democrats promised to cut spending, but didn't. A Democrat's promise is good only as long as they are still in the same room.
