Who would have any doughts now about this administration's warm feelings for liberal extremist radio? "...fair, balanced, objective..."...? Give me a break, clowns...
I would argue VOA perhaps. The target audience of VOA is foreign. As such, this is a propaganda arm, if you will, of America. In this, it benefits all taxpayers. Oversight? Yes. Get rid of it? No. As to the Armed Forces Radio, this is a provision for Americans serving overseas and is I believe a part of the military budget. Again, a very specific audience who does not have access to the plethora of opportunities we stateside Americans do. With the ready availability of internet, it may be time to pull the plug on this too. I do recall fondly listening to this in Vietnam and enjoying it a lot. The alternative was Vietnamese Opera.
The problem with NPR and CPB is the function more as an arm of the Democratic Party than a neutral news outlet. Mute witness to this is the firing of the Bush appointee and the screeches of horror from Democratic Party Senators and Congressmen when that gentleman suggested a little diversity in the coverage. CBS which is pretty left of center is cursed for being a right wing outlet by someone who considers NPR non-biased. That is pretty telling. Time to pull the plug and let the folks who want to support them, support them.
Now, would Fox News ever man up and admit errors, Never! Fox News should be prosecuted under the RICO Act for impersonating a legitimate news source. Its assets should all be sold off and all proceeds disbursed to NPR and PBS!
by HawkSpringsIsHere March 9, 2011 10:58 PM EST We should all support the Separation of News and State. Defund NPR now.

Let's start with separating Church and State and remove "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance, as it was adding in the 1950s. Then we'll defund NPR. Gotta negotiate a little, right?
Yes--Yes--Yes--they have failed to operate as a fair, unbiased ,entity--they are not fulfilling their mission statement, if they want to be a mouthpiece for the Democrats --let them get private funding.

I answered yours - are you going to answer mine? So what do you think? Or are you going to keep dodging?
Do we really need Armed Forces Radio?
VOA?
PBS?

While we're at it, we should be sure that Rush isn't run on Armed Forces Radio.
