It's funny hearing liberals talk about Detroit and American cars and how great it is Obama bailout the UAW. Yet with all certainty I can say 95% of you liberals own a Honda, Nissan or a Toyota.
I have never purchased anything but American made I own Dodge Ram 4x4, a Dodge Durrango and Jeep Wrangler. So to say I would have been disappointed if Dodge wen out of would be an understatement. That being said they did not deserve a bailout if they can't build cars people want to by then they should go out of business.
FYI: Many Hondas are made in Ohio & Alabama which are both American states btw. Toyotas are made in TX and will soon be made in MS. Nissans are made in MS and TN. Honda even makes engines in NC. GM has factories in Mexico.
If anyone wants to see what 60 years of big government Democrat and union control does for a place, look no further than Detroit. It is a crumbling city that looks more like bombed out Europe after WWII.
It's a good thing taxpayers bailed out GM and Chrysler. They pay a lot of taxes, buy a lot of goods, and it was cheaper to bail them out than if they went under. Only idiots cannot see that through their ignorant hate. Leave it to Republicans to be against good American jobs so they can make political hay. You are traitors to this country if you don't support American people, cities , and American jobs.
GM has been paying the money back, not so much with Chrysler. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac not only haven't paid the money back, they have their stinking hands out asking for more. Enough of this crap. No business is too big to fail. That is what monopoly laws are about. No more stupid bailouts.
I watched the ad and got chills. I cheered when the words Imported from Detroit appeared. Anyone who is making this about politics is missing the point. This is about the best we have to offer as Americans. We get knocked down but we get right back up again. I'm thrilled to see a commercial that celebrates grit, determination, loyalty, and lessons learned from failure. I didn't grow up in Detroit, but I spent several years working there. Certainly it has many flaws, but it is also rich in history and home to amazing places and people with a wonderful spirit. This ad celebrates that spirit. I applaud Chrysler for having the guts to make it. To the politicians bashing it.. I'll remember your comments when it's time for me to vote. I'd be proud to be Imported from Detroit
Props as well for the great post. Best part of your post is "lessons learned". If more of America did that, the world (starting with all of us too) would be far far better off.
According to www.hotair.com, this Chrysler ad cost close to $9 million to make and air. Taxpayers got stuck bailing them out and this is how the starched shirts repay us? Eminem will more than likely also be receiving residuals every time the ad runs. According to the online source, Chrysler is also apparently itching to hit the government up for more loans, courtesy of the duped taxpayer.
Chrysler didn't get "bailed out," they took out a loan and have since repaid it. You're confusing them with the big banks who took taxpayer money, used it for many nonessential things, and weren't made to pay it back.
"Imported From Detroit" is about showing America that we're not down for the count, and the publicity it's created is already worth more than the $9M they spent on the ad.
With 111 million viewers, that amounts to 8 CENTS per viewer. Given the tone of pride, American can-do spirit, and revitalism, it was damn well worth it. Compared to this ad, the funny beavers, hits to the groin, and slapstick humor of the other ads pale in comparison.
Too bad we do not inhabit my father's world. He is no longer with us. Died on a Chrysler plant floor, making cars. A real man. Served in Korea as a Marine too. There are no men today. Whiners only. The men of today do not know how to support America when buying American made. I too was a Steel Worker, working in a Dental Office. Covered under the Umbrella of United Steel Workers we were a union shop. A very large dental organization. We serviced many union members, keeping costs low as possible for services rendered, so all could benefit from needed services. People of America wish to individually help themselves, going outside the country, not staying UNITED. There are NO MEN today, in this country of ours. WOMEN! You must be the strong at heart and Mind! Take control of that checkbook and final decision making. Do not leave it up to the male in your relationship, or surely you will not get very far in life. He will purchase all things foreign, desire planned obsolescence, and finally replace you too! Chuck him and buy American, you will be glad you did!!!
Why do Republicans hate business? Don't say it's the bailout (which saved 3 MILLION of the best blue collar and engineering jobs in the nation)....do you see Republicans complaining about the tax breaks big oil and foreign auto manufacturers get (thanks to their plants throughout the Southern/Republican states). Do you see Republicans complaining about the spending on tax cuts for the wealthy? These things don't create any jobs...just add to the coffers.
The fact of the matter is that the American auto industry is back and in a better position to compete then ever. Every loan that was used to keep the industry alive will be paid back, in full, with interest. Republicans don't like this video because it shows how wrong they were on the auto bailout.

Pretty good TV Ad - and right on the mark for Super Bowl Mini Movie Type
Give it a 'Thumbs Up'
.
Now, concerning the 'politics/economics' of it
City of Detroit, State of Michigan, UAW and others of 'Direct Interest'
Did they all threw some money in the kitty to pay for it ?
Was as much or more about them as Chrysler
.
P.S. to 4:40 PM posting above (no 'user-name' ... interesting)

Sorry, Buzz IS a Big Deal. In fact - the ONLY deal.
What any Ad is aiming for, especially during Super Bowl
