Rep. Cohen made a very valid comparison to the GOP's disregard for the truth by invoking the name of the Third Reich's propaganda minister, famed for utilizing similar tactics. That is different than calling the Republicans Nazis.

His point, as the article spells out, was that repeating a lie often enough will result in the acceptance of the lie as the truth. There is nothing here to be up in arms about. As we are told further, he elaborated on this very valid point by mentioning that the constant demonizing of the Jews in the press of Hitler's Germany helped pave the way for the Holocaust. Again, no one could argue with the truth of that.

Why would this be "rhetoric"? Have those in the Republican camp given enough examples of distorting the truth? Yes they have. If they are employing the same tactics as the one who most famously swore by such tactics, no reasonable party can take any offense. (As Cohen explained later: "I want to be clear that I never called Republicans Nazis. Instead, the reference I made was to the greatest propaganda master of all time.")

Yet we have some very peculiar responses here, such as the one by cecilrussell, accusing the congressman of not knowing history -- although everything the congressman stated was based very much on history. Cecilrussell really wishes to blast Democrats (he ends with "like most democrats, truth and honesty is not welcome") by making an odd tie-in to the Nazis emulating the Ku Klux Klan, which as we all know, were all devoted Democrats.

Some Jewish groups have come down on Rep. Cohen, agitated over the Holocaust analogy. The ADL National Director, for example, fumed: "Invoking the Holocaust and the Nazi effort to exterminate the Jewish people is offensive." In other words, to breathe word of even an indirect reference to the Holocaust in any other manner than the ones who feel they have an exclusive right to the topic is tantamount to sacrilege.

It is evident to me that Mr. Cohen doesn't know very much about history. The Nazis duplicated the acts of the progressive democrats of the post civil war era. The Ku Klux Klan was created by 7 defeated southern democrat confederate soldiers after the Republican North beat the Southern Democrats into submission. It was the rich white southern democrats who created the Jim Crow laws.

The KKK was a southern terrorist organization whose function was to terrorize blacks and the republican whites who fought to free them.

But like most democrats, truth and honesty is not welcome in their camp.

Rep. Cohen's comments sound harsh but he spoke the truth. I can not think of anything more heartless or Godless than denying life saving health care to another human being.

You think Cohen is extreme? What about trying to repeal health care for people? Now THAT is extreme.

How about the Republicans shamelessly representing the rights of the filthy rich to rape and pillage the people? What about the government's responsibility to protect the General Welfare.

The Republicans could not care less about America and it's Constitution. The only way they got into power was by having their corporate masters buying them in.

The rhetoric from the LEFT did not lead to anyone being killed.

And if you will stop to educate yourself you would realize that Nazi fascism is the merging of corporate and state interests. And by defending the "needs" of the giant health insurance companies for even more profits, the Republicans are confirming whose side they are on.

Well, so much for toning down the rhetoric. But I suppose libs will say it is okay so long as it comes from them.

As I said the conservatives NEED the rhetoric to keep their fear mongering up. That way they can appeal to the firm father figure mentality of people and stay in power (along with massive amounts of money from their corporate masters).

No...... Libs will say it's o.k. because the healthcare is helping people. Republicans are not for the people. You know "We the people" ? Republicans are only concerned about "We the corporations". They really only care about the $$$. It's so obvious, with everything they do. they are just foaming at the mouth with greed & corruption. How else can you explain it?

The Nation (or at least the thinking sane part of it) just had a hissy-fit over the mean spirited name calling, particularly by the Entertainers on Fox News, and the violent, inciting dialog. You know, the Nazi in every corner, the socialist, the anti-american, the terrorist, the Muslim (freedom of religion be darned) - and of course, the killing, gun toting, shooting and reloading rhetoric (or maybe it isn't rhetoric, who know?)

The right cried a river over their victimhood, but not paricularly any tears for the real victims who unwittingly incited this storm by getting in the way of bullets.

Now, a gentleman (?) from the left takes a page from Glen Beck? This guy is, at best, clueless. I am a democrat, and if he lived in my district I would be at the front of the line to vote him out.

TONE IT DOWN!!!! Truly, "all publicity is good publicity" applies only if you are one of the Kardashians. For public officials, my leaders, I want true "good publicity" that shows me they know how to behave in public!

If the GOP quite lying and telling half truths using their corporate propaganda machine, maybe they could avoid these factual statements. What do they expect when the Republican Corporation wants to kill Grandma? What do they expect when they say they want to deny health care even when the plan WILL SAVE MONEY.

Yes, the extreme capitalist (fascist) Republican Corporate Party just keeps asking for these labels.
