Everytime I hear talks of cutbacks its always with Medicare, Schools, Military, Social Security. When will I hear about Washington making cutbacks in THEIR benefits, in THEIR pay raises, in THEIR frivolous spending. I can't afford to be cutback anymore.

Lets just see what is actually going on we spend more money on helping outside interests then the people of this country, we waste money on wars but cut on education and healthcare, now the same party that destroyed our economy because they were lead by an idiot, sorry just being honest is back in some power. I suggest to put aside the differences work together and help the working class oh nevermind I forgot that is considered a joke sadly Mr. and or Mrs. Senator/ Congressman we the not so priveledged aren't laughing especially when you want use to retire at 70 with less health. Government take a pay cut you obviously aren't doing the job right so why are you making so much money, if the people work on veterans day and most holidays why don't you? Ever hear of leading by example if we don't have a paid holiday why is our money paying you to have the day off. So essentially we the people are paying your inflated salaries so you can cheat us out of our money that we work hard to make. Another interesting question do you pay for medical or is it free hmm I wonder, again if you were really interested in helping the people when you ran for govenor, congress , senate or any political spot when did you lose your way and forget about the people that put you there cause they trusted you to do the job? Well thanks I have learned one thing from all the politicians they really don't care and for those of you who do care, I apologize just wish there were more of you then them.

The Tea-Party movement was pushed with the premise that they are standing on the side of the people but it is coming to light that it is the same old Republican agenda and plan just wrapped in a new package. The American people haven?t bought off on that agenda and is won?t fly now. And if the politicians thought the mid term elections were wild stand by, if this plan to fix the Federal Budget is pursued you haven?t seen anything yet. Yes you are to cut the Federal Budget and bring the Federal Deficit under control. However if politicians haven?t figured this out yet; you are not going to fix the problems you created on the backs of working Americans. You are going down a path that will only devastate this country that the American people will not stand for or be able to recover from. Do politicians really believe that they are going to convince the American people that the way to fix things is to do those things that will benefit the wealthy, big businesses and the oil companies and to take more money from everyone who is earning less than one hundred and fifty thousand a year or the retired or disabled who are on a fixed income? If you believe this is a plan try and think again all you will do is turn the majority of the American people into indentured servants destined to work every day until they die.

the first place to cut spending is with senator and reps salaries and per diem. the new to be speaker of the house earns MORE than the president!!! Does that make sense?

First let me say I agree that congress needs to get their financial house in order before telling the rest of us how to live. That being said, You need to get your facts straight. The Speaker of the house makes $223,500 a year. The president makes $400,000 a year. Not that I don't agree that they both make too much but, it gives more credibility to your statement and makes it sound less like a rant if the facts you post are true.

How about we start with just going back to the budget we had in 2008, before President Obama decided to grow the federal government on the backs of struggling businesses and taxpayers? After that, cut the federal government 5% until we reach a balanced budget. We could probably do away with the government studies on the thickness of ketchup. No kidding. There are a host of wasteful government studies that are absolutely idiotic. Just start whacking them.

The commission didn't need those fancy name ex-senators. They needed regular Joe. Pay me to sit on the commission.

Social Security, starting now, should be a shared cost between worker and govt. Just like a 401K, the govt matches the employee's contribution and puts it in a trust for the Employee, not to be touched before the age of 55. It's that simple.

Mortage interest has to go. It's propping up housing sales. We need to ween people off of that tax credit.

I agree with the you on the mortage interest deduction, it entices people to go in debt. Plus it makes a home an investment rather than a place to live, which is what it really is in the first place. I do however feel the retirement age needs to be raised. It's silly to think we can pay people for 20 years and not be over burdened. And, lets look at this realistically the retirement age was set at a time when the avrage person lived to be 65 not 80-85 like it is today. its just unrealistic to keep it at 65. Before I get attacked by those who disagree, it will affect me. I am far from retirement age and honestlty have never planed on being able to draw socoal security in the first place.

Absolutely incredible! From everything I've heard or read so far, there's no discussion whatsoever of cutting foreign aid. No matter, the US citizens will, I'm sure, be more than happy to bear the entire brunt of any sacrifices that need be made.

Is Pres. Obama maybe playing 'chicken' with this deficit 'hawks' who refuse to get specific.

Like he must have been sitting on these proposals for a while now, you figure? Maybe because he figured the electorate (including the most of the tea party) would never go for most of these proposals. And if by some long-shot everybody actually likes one or two of the proposals, like the farm subsidies or whatever, then something actually gets done.

Cutting back is always painful, right - ever done anything not because you absolutely HAD to, but because you felt like it made financial sense, like stopped buying coffee at Starbucks and bottled juices in the summer time, or stopped buying soda (because it wasn't good for you). Even something as trivial as that, it's hard, isn't it?

It sounds like the Repubs are in shock by suggestions LOL if all they had to say was 'great' or whatever. Were they caught off-guard by POTUS, because they didn't have anything else to say - no thoughts about the specifics? No additional measures they wanted to add? No counterproposals? At least they were willing to concede that their failure to advance specifics opened the door to Pres. Obama taking the lead on tackling the deficit, and he took it hehe :p
