She beat the trend due to the fact that there are still so many left wing extremists in California. These people don't seem to be concerned by the fact that progressive ideas and practices have put California into billions of dollars in the hole. They don't seem to mind that companies are running away from California as fast as possible. They just continue to dream dreams of a progressive utopia, while the state around them crumbles. It's sad.
Calif. is the most liberal Dem state in the union. That's the ONLY reason she survived. It is also the primary reason Calif. has teetered on the edge of bankruptcy, for years, and with Brown back in office, it is likely to happen, this time.
Little Ms. Mossad "won" the same way she "wins" every race, with a special something called good old fashioned election fraud. The same way Reid steals Nevada with Rasmussen poles showing him 4-5% behind Angle only 1 week prior to election day. For the same reason, NBC, among other corporate/government media partnerships, was able to predict her win with only 17% of the votes counted while simultaneously showing on their screen that Fiorina was ahead. The same prediction was made at 20%, with Fiorina still ahead. Then the final "victory" announcement and speech was given with 36% of the votes in. That may sound like and "election" to Stalin, but to logical people that live outside San Francisco, the fraud is pretty obvious.

They might have made a difference. If the people of California want to keep more of the same, they are welcome. However, don't ask the American citizens of the other 49 states to rescue you and pay your stupid debt. We less progressive people in Alabama require our state to operate on a balanced budget. You are on your own, and you can deal with your own choices.
