United Stated is surviving without a health care plan for years with no problem, why dont take that money and think to pay the deficit of this nation with China... Before United State lose the power in money and Laws, and another country take control of the United State of America.... just Think about....
you are correct the United States has been "surviving" without a health care plan for years. However, this has not been with "no problem" You may be in a situation where you have never experienced problems with your health and have not had to deal with the current problems in our healthcare system as it is now. Unfortunately, that is not true for all of us. I am young, 33, and have already had cancer, I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and Degenerative Disc Disease. I had to quit teaching due to these problems and lost my inexpensive group coverage. My husband owns a small business and the rates are unbelievable because of my medical history. I am unable to obtain individual coverage because I am uninsurable due to my medical history. So, I am forced to pay nearly one thousand dollars a month and my husband's employees also pay super high premiums for things that were out of my control. It is absolutely necessary for the health care system to be changed in every way. I get really tired of those of you who are fortunate enough to have great health and great insurance thinking things are fine because you cannot see outside of your bubble. My husband makes great money, however, I believe it is unfair that his employees who don't should suffer in their insurance premiums due to my health problems and think that I should be able to obtain my own insurance without paying 2-3 thousand a month. Even with a great salary that is too expensive!!
the healthcare bill reduces the deficit over time. And yes we need to take additional steps to completely get rid of the deficit. The Republicans surely will no do it considering they added trillions to the debt during good economic times, but we need to push the Dems to take it seriously and take additional steps as well.
by cgallaway March 21, 2010 7:14 PM EDT I thought the only good thing in this bill is, well, most of it. Reducing the deficit is good, right?
The very same Democrats so anxious to expand government's role in healthcare, the same ones who have already added $trillions to the deficit - you seriously believe that they'll "cut" Medicare? That's where most of the "savings" and "deficit reduction" is supposed to come from. I have yet to see any federal entitlement program costs actually go down - have you?
The "scam" is the way the current system functions...you pay into a health insurance fund for years, only to find out that the disease you contract isn't covered. Or, you get prostate cancer at age 27, and then are denied treatment because you were "too young" to fit the standard profile for that disease. Or, you get sick and lose your job and benefits, which includes coverage for diabetes medication. Then, when you resume work, you can't get insurance for your preexisting condition. Or you simply work at Walmart or McDonalds, and your employer limits you to 33 hours a week so they don't have to pay health insurance benefits! The current system is full of scams ... that's why we need some comprehensive legislation to resolve the horrific, family-destroying shortfalls. If you don't agree, move to another country. You'll have to look for a Third World home, however: every developed nation already has some form of the universal, socialized medicine you abhor. They do this to protect their citizens from the scams perpetuated by insurers and businesses in America and to ensure a healthy, productive work force at all income levels!
Great analysis which is exactly why we can only hope enough congressmen change their expected vote and the bill fails this evening. This bill does nothing to fix any of the problems you mention. It also still does nothing to keep families out of medical bankruptcy. It ensures those poeple with individual policy premiums will increase to the same premiums as employer negotiated policies (these people complain about $500 or $700 a month but policies with no limitation of pre-existing conditions cost $1300 to $1700 a month). Lets hope congress gets off this bill and starts to work on one that at least addresses some of your problems and these as well.
one of the only good things of this health care bill is Illegal immigrants will not be allowed to buy health insurance in the exchanges -- even if they pay completely with their own money.
How naive, in order to get the Latino caucus vote, Our President has committed to amnesty for 10-12 million illegals. Once they are 'citizens' they join the health care program legally.
"one of the only good things of this health care bill is Illegal immigrants will not be allowed to buy health insurance in the exchanges -- even if they pay completely with their own money."
How is that good? People who haven't given it any serious thought might think it will make people think twice about coming into the U.S. illegally (though how this would benefit you people in any way, I have yet to figure out).
Actually, what it will do is this: 1) They will come over anyway. Most illegals come from Mexico and Latin America anyway, and do you really think they have insurance there? 2) When said illegal immigrants find jobs, they won't be able to get health insurance if they want it. 3) If they want medical care, they will go to the hospitals anyway, but their bills will simply go unpaid, and the hospital's loss will be foisted off on all the other patients instead of being paid by their premiums (the payment of which ironically creates insurance jobs in America, hah!).

P.S. this was NEVER about health care, ONLY REVENUE THROUGH TAX.
