I believe that this bill that has been passed has finnally put the American health care system in the right direction. Im from Canada and we have free health care. I don't understand why that some American people do not like the direction that Obama has taken. Its still not free, but its a step in the right direction. YES YOU CAN OBAMA, YES YOU CAN. Years will show that this step was the right one. I understand the cost maybe high but this Health Care Bill will work.

This bill passing does nothing for 70% of the american population which has healthcare through there employer! Also, I currently offered health insurance to a family of Four for under $300 dollars a month which is less than what most people spend on Cigarettes and Artery Clogging fast food! I think the general population needs to read more and look at their priorities, so I don't have to pay for their health coverage anymore!

I see a tremendous amount of ignorance in this whole thing. There are blatent lies with misdirection of political games. Bottom line is that Democracy works in spite of republican desire to not serve the people but, only themselves and the corporate gods they serve.

I agree there is ignorance-on the part of the politicians and those that want handouts. We are guaranteed three rights- life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Where does healthcare fit in? Socialism hasn't worked in other countries, what makes us think we can get it right?

"wow I can't believed it - my future looks pretty bleak now - just going to be taxed to death because of the baby boomer generation - thanks guys you really messed things up."

Amen. The worst part about this is that Americans have grown to feel so entitled to health insurance (due to the fact that it's not taxed, so employers have over the past five decades given more and more people insurance instead of more income, since it costs them less to give the employees more that way). But hello, there's a reason insurance companies stay in business, and that's because they charge more over time than the actual medical care costs. They subsidize the old by forcing the young (and more likely healthy) to buy insurance. This bill will actually FORCE people to take a gamble (after all, insurance is another form of gambling) that statistics and the profitability of insurance says they will most likely lose.

Also, a public insurance option means even less bargaining power by private insurers than they already have, which means even worse increases in the cost of health care. Good job, congress.

Don't blame this on the baby boomer generation (which I'm from).Baby boomers don't want this mess anymore than you do. Blame it on the democratic congress. Vote them all out!!!

I have been a Democrat since 1983 and I just volunteered to work for the Republican candidate for US Senate in my state. I will be voting for Republicans in all races, big and small, for the foreseeable future and sending money to candidates in other states as well. Cannot wait until November 2010. Vote The Democrats Out!!!!

would find the arguments by Republican Congressmen more believable if it wasn't for the fact that they all feeding at the public trough. Not one Republican congressmen has given up his government provided health insurance to purchase coverage on the private market. Seems what's good for them is not good for my 30 yr. son. What a bunch of hypocrites.

This ignorance is what is currently ripping America apart. What does it matter if the candidates are Republican or Democrat? What SHOULD matter is if the candidate is doing what is right for the direction of OUR country at that time. Learn the candidates, learn their strategies, and consider if they are doing what is right simply for you or what is right for the country. Isn't that what our government is SUPPOSED to be about?

Are you serious? You'd prefer the folks who lied about WMD's to get us into war, brought our country to the brink of complete financial collapse, and added trillions to the debt? Seriously?

Over folks who are trying to do something for middle class America by making sure students and self-employed can get health insurance? and cut the deficit at the same time?

Let me remind you that Obama saved our country from complete financial collapse and avoided a second Great Depression (predicted by many economists at end of Bush term) instead getting a recession that is finally now turning into economic growth again. And you're going to vote for the folks who brought us into economic ruin?! You are crazy.

this bill has nothing but an entitlement program and ponzi scheme to ultimately benefit unions and replenish their pension funds. If it were truly about healthcare reform we wouldn't have to pay and wait 4 years for service, and it would resolve the problem of the 31M uninsured without steamrolling the entire population of 300M while giving the government control of 20% of the economy.

I must agree with you, If you can afford an X-Box 360 and a PS3 and you have stacks of videos on your entertaiment center and cigarrettes in your pocket you can afford health insurance the way it was!

Are you kidding? The government helping the uninsured buy insurance and telling insurance companies they can't drop people when they get sick is impinging on your freedom? What about our freedom from corporate control? Like the death panels of insurance companies that deny people lifesaving care despite the fact that they are paying for insurance?

$940B invested to save $130B on the deficit. Peanuts. I am not sure it matters anymore. Spend a few minutes looking at America's deficit clock. We have passed the point of recovery. We can't even keep up on the servicing of the interest on the debt, much less the debt itself. $800 billion here, a trillion there. Hmmm. In a country of 300 million citizens? We are now so far in debt that the mathematics can't work. The country is heading for bankrupcy. Go ahead, look for yourself. In the very near future, some brave politician will have to step forward and say Social Security payments are no more. And it won't stop there. Because, for all the want of entitlements, the money has to come from somewhere. The Greatest Generation who struggled through WWI and WW2 were a tough lot. They scratched and dug for everything they acheived because they knew nothing is free. But their children were spoiled. They wanted the best of everything and entitlements were their right. And it all came so easy to them. The McMansions they couldn't afford, the credit card debt they couldn't repay, and the three car garage they could not really afford to fill. So as we cheer tonight for another trillion dollar entitlement, take a few minutes and look at the clock. It ain't free and that will become painfully apparent when the clock stops running.

The $143 Billion reduction in the deficit is the net result. Meaning, money is spent on the program, but more revenue is generated than is spent.
