- Before Obama was elected, he was incredibly popular in Europe. They loved his speeches and the principles he claimed to stand for. However, once he was in power and started to make his changes, the public mood begin to sour. His actions didn't match his speeches. He decided to leave troops in Iraq, expand the war in Afghanistan, appoint hacks like Clinton and other lobbyist to key positions, and reacted to the faltering economy by giving billions of taxpayers dollars to rich bankers. During the campaign, 200,000 in Germany turned out to cheer his speeches. In his last visit, there were riots in most major European cities and a more somber appraisal of his policies. Most Europeans I talk to, have become more pessimistic about his capabilities. Latin America will be the next big test.

- I agree with the author that the Castro brothers are very unlikely to change in their attitude towards the U.S. or any democracy for that matter. The Cubans have been under their iron fist for more than half a century now; most Cubans know of no other way of life. It's sad but there's not one iota we can do about it. And once the Castros finally die there will just be another of their ilk to take their place. What do we care anyway? If Cuba ever did get democracy the first thing that would happen is a mass migration of Cubans to America (again!....remember when Clinton let over 100,000 Cubans into the U.S., causing Castro to promptly empty his prisons of criminals to come to Miami? watch the movie 'Scarface')

talaan,
Respect is one thing and it is mutual. Bowing down to someone is another story.
The Saudi King did not bow to President Obama.
And if it was such a right to do, then why did the WH lie about it? - Reply to this comment
- Obama bowed to the muslim Saudi King because he studied about him in his Madrassa elementary school in Jakarta.

- President Obama was sending a message to the muslim world that he is ready to bend over in order to meet the concessions of partnership.
And throw America and Israel under the bus in the process.
I don't get why trying to having a relationship with Muslim countries mean that we have to be throwing anybody under the bus. - Reply to this comment
