Those of you who see nothing wrong with Wikileaks apparently think that governments should have no right to keep any secrets.
Oh really?
Do you even understand that, in a time of war, if we cant keep secrets, we could even lose a war that we would otherwise win?
Do you not realize that keeping intelligence private in WW2 was the difference between losing and winning? The difference between saving and losing tens of thousands of American lives?
At what point do you get it?
Idealism is a fun quirk to have, when you're 15 or 16. It's a fatal and dangerous idea to embrace when you're grown up and should know better.
If WikiLeaks had been around in 1965... It's likely that the United States government wouldn't have been able to ram the Viet-Nam War down our throats.
.
If WikiLeaks had been around in 1965... 57,000 American boys would not have been slaughtered in Viet-Nam and would have gone on to be husbands... fathers... grandfathers.
.
No wonder the government and corporate America wants to silence WikiLeaks.
Again: The problem is not some conspiracy to hide facts by the government but to protect what is known or not known by different factions. It is not about a person calling another person a name but the enemy finding out for sure what they thought was right or wrong. One who reads especially history of war if certain things had been known it would have directly effected WWII. For instance did you know the Government worked with Lucky Luciano to get the dock workers union to do what FDR's Government wanted since we were Isolationist in the war effort before Japan gave him his entrance into the war and also helped in gaining Italy back from the reign of terror. Brittan if not for the lend lease act to get around the public declaration of neutrality would have most likely fallen. Talking about Ellsburg, the war was to be ended by the election of Richard Nixon when he promised to end the war if elected in 1968. One thing is right that the problem is of the people. The people is us though as we keep vested the people who make these decisions every election. Most US Citizens have an idea of what goes on around the world as far as truth. But it is easier to sit and ignore the problems every nation faces in this world. Some not so significant secrets are the greatest secrets. Having the directions of a missile does the enemy little good in the short run since they have to be able to build and use the intended piece. Remember Patton beat Rommel because of his big mouth.
At one time I looked at it the way you do until I watched US jobs and technology being exported to third world countries to line the pockets of neocons. Much of this technology vital to national security. We have lost our edge now because of greed and efforts to beat down the middle class.
The Iraq war cost over 4000 US lives and more than 30 thousand wounded. My guess is that many of them would have liked to had a wikileaks around before we went after weapons of mass destruction. Unfortunately the wrap themselves in a flag and bury their heads in the sand will wipe out Freedom of the Press in this country.
There's a new news "leak" that Paypal won't pay J Assange's Wikileaks. That's a good decision. That thief and alleged rapist should be grabbed and brought to us in US.

Maybe WikiLeaks will take down the big banks, too.

Many Americans are uncomfortable with the future - and for good reason.
As the circus attendant said - "The ride is over, time to get off".
Everything is transient.
