Declan McCullagh: Golden State, In Danger Of Economic Collapse, Turns To Federal Government For Help
- Is California Too Big To Fail?...
Isn't that the same attitude they had with AIG? Never underestimate the insolvency of any state government. - Reply to this comment
- "CALIFORNIA LOTTERY" Arnold,
Yesterday, I was fueling up my car and when I went to pay for my gas I glanced at the Lottery tickets and and I got an Idea. I don't know if it's a viable idea but I am trying to help so here it is.
What If Chrysler & GM Consigned ALL OF THEIR DEAD STOCK To CALIFORNIA To Be Placed In "THE CALIFORNIA LOTTERY" As PRIZES.
The Lottery Would Win, The People Would Win, CHRYSLER & GM Would Win& California Would Win.

- Before the produce corporations would allow the fruit to rot, they would break down and pay a decent wage in order to gather the crop.

Of course they would break down. They would just simply pass on any hike in wages to the consumer. Only an idiot would think that the price of produce would stay the same if the fruit pickers ended up being paid "decent" wages.
I do think it's wrong for illegal immigrants to "steal" jobs away from American citizens. But after seeing what the unions did to the auto industry, asking for "decent" wages, striking when they don't get their way, and becoming a major factor why the American auto industry is in the financial gutter, the alternative to illegal immigrants picking fruit isn't sunny enough to warrant a change from the status quo. - Reply to this comment

- California would set itself back upright if it quit giving free health care and educational benefits to illegal aliens. Start putting employers of the illegals in jail, and the results would be dramatic. Dry up the job markets and most of them would go home.
And to those who say we need them to pick the fruit. Before the produce corporations would allow the fruit to rot, they would break down and pay a decent wage in order to gather the crop. That would translate to jobs for citizens instead of a drain on the economy. - Reply to this comment
- Oh I'm sure Bailout Barry will come through and just spread the wealth around. I so much look forward to paying for California's financial ineptitude. I'm sure you do too.

Agreed, but make it 10,000 to cover the cost of deporting them afterwards!
- Put Republicans in charge of governing and this is what happens. The party of big business ends up with a TIN CUP in hand, and begs for handouts from the taxpayer, bailoutS from the government and loans from COMMUNIST CHINA.
So much for BUSH smirking 'I am home' in 2000, when he got the White House with Supreme Court corruption. The GOP is a corrupt group of looters. They caused a lot of misery in America.

- CA has already failed. It only took a generation to turn it into a third world state. They make the North East look like paradise.

- The Northeast has a much higher percentage of the population functioning as productive citizens, and although times are lean, entitlement programs, the educational system, roads and infrastructures, and other public works are still functioning. The region has indeed taken over the leadership of the country in terms of both innovative government policy and successful financial adaptation. I feel for good hard-working Californians who are being overwhelmed by years of immigration policy that has stripped them of their economic foundation. California has no cultural identity anymore, although it regularly projects the voices of extreme opinions from both the right and the left.
