"Treasury has not yet set up policies and procedures to help ensure that (taxpayer dollars) are being used as intended... Treasury also has no policies and procedures in place for ensuring that the institutions are complying with these requirements or that they are using the capital investments in a manner that helps meet the purposes of the act...Treasury cannot effectively hold participating institutions accountable for how they use the capital injections or provide strong oversight of compliance with the requirements under the act"

This is why I suggested that Eliot Spitzer be named a colleague to Paulson since he has vast knowledge about the inner workings of the financial industry and knows more about oversight and regulation than most congressionals since this was his expertise prior to getting caught up in his ''personal'' scandal. Why not give him the opportunity to make amends [he was charged with NO CRIMINAL CONDUCTand this was a breach of his private moral compass] by using that brilliant mind of his to help set policy and assist with enforcing procedural accountability to be used by all institutions so that some semblance of orderly accountability can be provided to congress and us, the taxpayer?

Why would anyone approve and shove something this massive and critical through without mandating oversight? Congress is notorious for earmarking and adding pork to their legislation, but when it came to the economy, they were mentally deficient, inattentive and more interested in getting out of town for the elections. Once again, we see how incompetent and malfeasant Congress is. And to think, the left blathers on and on about the low numbers for the president''s approval, while their numbers are even lower. I wonder whose fault that is, or are they trying to ignore the facts and hope the lame and ignorant forget about it?

You need to actually read the article before you make stupid comments, ****!

It''s the REPUBLICAN ADMINISTRATION that is stealing your money!

"The 72-page report from the Government Accountability Office describes how federal agencies are being less than diligent in making sure that bailout dollars don''t go to enrich failed executives or reward Hank Paulson''s friends on Wall Street."
