- FIRST: FIRE every executive in GM, FORD and Chrysler. Replace them with people who vow to build fuel efficient automobiles only. NEXT: Tell the Autoworkers union to shell out all of the workers union dues into the bail out plan to help out. AND THEN: cut wages and benefits from the managers, assemblers, inspectors, mechanics all the way down to the cleaner and floor sweeper and put the money into their bailout plan. Tell them that it is better to recieve a lower payscale, than to be put out on the street without any job at all....like us, soon to be gone, Circut City employees. If they do not agree to these demands....than NO bailout and we will see them on the unemployment lines with the rest of us after Christmas.

I can pay off the mortgage, car loans , student loans etc.
My family works hard, pays taxes and doesn''''t participate in any schemes to cheat others.
I guess that means I don''''t qualify.

How bout paying off my mortgage or my cars?

- I understand how many jobs depend on the car industry. But before we do a bailout they (company and union) need to agree to redo everything. Otherwise we will bail out companies who have a failed business model. The reason "Blue" failed (Fords attempt at making a japanese style efficient car) was because they could not do it without a financial lose. This shows that the business model is a failure for the future.

- Ironic how libertarians decry US labor unions and then extol the virtues of the Japanese and European car companies. European and Japanese labor unions are far more powerful than ours.
Nissan was somehow able to build my truck in Japan (not assembled here--I checked the VIN) and sell it to me at a profit, while paying their unionized workers more than unionized US autoworkers make.
Of course, Japanese and European automakers don''t need to provide their workers or retirees health insurance, either. - Reply to this comment
- As a retired Lettercarrier I was at one time, a Union member and I could see that some union was desirable but too much union is not good either. A delicate balance is good but poor, short-sighted management is the chief cause of American Automotive distress.

- Recalling the Old Testament story of the famine in Jacob''s (Israel) time, their sale of their accumulated possessions in Egypt to the Pharoah (Joseph had been sold by his brothers into slavery and due to God''s will had been elevated to a principal position under the Pharoah) whose servant Joseph manipulated the move of Israel and his sons to the protection of the Egyptian Goshen region. Precedent established, require ownership or control of profits to reimburse America until help has been repaid; then return wholely, the benefitted companies to government-absent ownership.

- Why should we bail out GM or Ford? They should have made high fuel efficient cars that people wanted and needed more of, instead of the gas guzzlers that they are making now, most only getting 15-20 MPG. Who the hell needs a SUV in the first place.
If we MUST bail them out, then FIRE every executive of the company first as a requirement before handing the company any of our Taxpayer money!!! - Reply to this comment

The problem with Chapter 11 is the Auto company suppliers will get screwwwed out of all the money the Big 3 owe them. the Big 3 have a reputation for negotiating pricing from it''s suppliers that leave little profit and they are famous for very slow payment. With Chapter 11 the Big 3 may survive by the thousands of supplier companys out there will be destroyed. - Reply to this comment
- The Unions caused the problem in the auto industry. It would be good to let them go bankrupt to get the fluff out of the contracts.
As far as you anti-Americans here. Screw you. America still makes good cars. Most of you who say anything different wouldn''t even know how to change a tire.
I have worked on cars my whole life and there is nothing special about a Toyota or a Honda.
