StormyTexan I know Joe Biden had his notes and papers and pen -- so didn''t Sarah Palin -- big deal. Barack Obama and John McCain have notes and papers and pens
Here''s some energy information about Alaska Oil from FactCheck.org:

Palin claims Alaska "produces nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy." That''s not true.

Alaska did produce 14 percent of all the oil from U.S. wells last year, but that''s a far cry from all the "energy" produced in the U.S.

Alaska''s share of domestic energy production was 3.5 percent, according to the official figures kept by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

And if by "supply" Palin meant all the energy consumed in the U.S., and not just produced here, then Alaska''s production accounted for only 2.4 percent.

StormyTexan You''ve got that all screwed up. Sarah Palin proved in the debate that she can memorize facts, phrases and punch lines, but she doesn''t have a fund of knowledge to back up all the talking points that they crammed into her head. She doesn''t even know the constitutional powers of the Vice President. Give me a break -- 4th grade -- 5th grade curriculum. If she so wants to speak UNFILTERED to the American people (I doubt she will) -- she needs go on the Sunday morning news shows -- Meet the Press, Face the Nation, This Week with George S., in my opinion she''s afraid and doesn''t have the balls to play in the majors -- she''s just wiffle ball fluff.

elaine2009 If you''re interested in hearing Sarah Palin''s comments concerning the Supreme Court''s ruling go to YouTube -- "Governor Sarah Palin''s Reaction to Exxon Valdez Decision." She knew about it, but couldn''t think fast enough on her feet to come up with an intelligent answer to Katie Couric''s question. I think not mentioning this ruling that so effects Alaska sort of makes you wonder if she has the intelligence to be the Governor of the State of Alaska -- but that''s a question for the voters of the State of Alaska to ask and answer for themselves.

McCain is the maverick.
Palin is change we need.

Obama and Biden lost in the debates. McCain schooled Obama on WARFARE and Palin talked like an American, not some Politician.

elaine2009 That Supreme Court ruling question should have been a no brainer for Sarah Palin and anyone living in or from Alaska. The Supreme Court ruled in June 2008 on the Exxon Valdez case -- reducing the awards thereby saving Exxon big bucks. Sarah Palin was interviewed and said she was disappointed in the ruling. Now, why couldn''t she have thought of that when asked by Katie Couric. Sarah Palin couldn''t even speak about a Supreme Court ruling from 2008 that directly effected her own State of Alaska. Come on -- this should have been a no brainer for Sarah Palin. Defend her all you want -- she''s an airhead.

The reality is that a few nuclear power plants will have a greater contribution to our relative energy independence than all the combined contributions of solar, wind, and thermal energy. Only the proposals of John McCain on nuclear power, offshore drilling, wind, and solar energy will make the idea of a relative United States energy independence a reality.

Why should Barack Obama insist that the removing the offshore oil drilling ban should be part of a comprehensive energy ban? Why should it be a bargaining chip. It is the right and appropriate thing to do and should not used as a Democratic leadership fillibuster or extorsion tool to extract concessions on other issues.

If you think about it John McCain plan for forty-five new nuclear power plants is reasonable, needed and attainable. Our current 108 nuclear power plants supply twenty (20) percent of our electricity requirements. This is amazing considering that it has been thirty years since there has been new construction on new nuclear power plants anywhere in the United States. Construction on new nuclear power plants has occurred throughout the world but not in the United States thanks to Democratic leadership. In France, nuclear power supplies 80 percent of their electricity needs. Because 108 nuclear power plants are generating twenty percent of our needs, an additional 45 nuclear power plants will only increase the percentage of nuclear power to roughly 28 percent of our needs well short of French eighty percent nuclear power generation of electricity. John McCain proposals are reasonable and will help lead us to energy independence. Democrats under the leadership of Barack Obama want to study the issue for another 30 years. By that time the only remaining United States builder of nuclear power plants General Electric will have gone the way of Westinghouse and sold its nuclear construction division to a foreign owned company Toshiba Corporation of Japan. Given the Democratic led hostile business environment for nuclear power in the United States, we will have no United States owned companies capable of building nuclear power plants.

The Hibernia well drilled by US owned Chevron is on the Continental shelf in Canadian territorial waters not US waters. The first well drilled at Hibernia produced 50,000 barrels a day. There are no oil wells along the entire 1900 miles East Coast coastline off the United States thanks to the Democratic opposition of the Democratic Party and Barack Obama. The point of the well is to demonstrate that there is oil north of the United States and there is also oil south of the United States along the east coast of Brazi, it is a reasonable inference that there is a lot of oil in between along our entire Eastern seaboard.

Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin understand that over one fourth of current United States oil production is now offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin also understand that under the theory of plate tectonics and continental drift, 300 million years ago when oil was formed all of the continents were one supercontinent called Pangea. The continents then drifted apart. The Africa coast was right up against North Carolina 300 million years ago. Today half of the oil production of Nigeria is now offshore and the odds of large offshore deposits off our east coast are very strong. There are also huge oil deposits off of east coast of Brazil. Brazil has tied up almost all of the world ocean drilling ships in the hopes of developing those deposits. Given there is confirmed oil off of Brazil, likely oil off the Southern US east coast and there is confirmed large deposits south of Newfoundland then it is likely there is oil all up and down the entire United States east coast. The United States has the largest coastline in the world and it is simple common sense to make use of those offshore resources to achieve our energy independence. John McCain energy proposals will bring about this development that we so desperately need.

Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin realize that the Democrats under the leadership of Barack Obama want to effectively give away in trust our offshore exclusive economic zone by standing in the way of any current offshore development. Under the 1982 United Nations Law of the Seas Convention the US has an exclusive economic zone of 200 nautical miles and mineral seabed rights up to 350 nautical miles extending along the Continental shelf. A nautical mile is 6080 feet so our exclusive economic zone extends about 240 miles and mineral seabed rights extend 420 miles. The US has the world''s largest offshore exclusive economic zone totaling 4.4 million square miles. In comparison, the total land area of the United States is only 3.4 million square miles. On the East coast alone, if you drive from Key West Florida to Bangor Maine it is 2000 miles. Multiply the 2000 miles by mineral seabed rights extending out 420 miles results in a total of 840,000 square miles of ocean acreage. Because we have the world''s largest offshore coastline which is twenty-eight percent greater than our land area, it only makes common sense that we exploit our offshore resources to achieve our energy independence.

Arco Oil Company developed and explored the Alaska North Slope and formerly owned eighty percent of our proven Alaskan reserves. With its substantial oil reserves Arco Oil Company should have bought British Petroleum instead of British Petroleum buying out Arco Oil Company during the second Bill Clinton administration. With the right business environment and support from both political parties in the United States, Arco Oil Company might have been more successful and been able to buy out British Petroleum instead of British Petroleum buying out Arco Oil Company. Look at Apple Computer and Microsoft. Their success in the computer world have made them bullet proof to corporate takeovers. Longterm Democratic hostility and opposition to offshore drilling and periodic talk of windfall profits taxes contributed to the takeover of Arco Oil Company.

Senator John McCain picked Governor Sarah Palin because he intends to follow through and make his Project Lexington for United States energy independence the dominant issue in this campaign. Governor Sarah Palin is a strong supporter of increased offshore drilling and she knows that Alaska has an offshore coastline greater than the rest of the country combined and is also comes in second among the states in oil production. Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and John McCain understand that Obama and the Democrats would never consider government loan guarantees or tax breaks for a sure thing that will produce energy for the American gas tank. In fact Democrats are trying to put together a so-called windfall profits tax which will have the effect of discouraging future investment in the United States oil industry. John McCain also knows that Governor Sarah Palin family situation also illustrates that longterm Democratic leadership hostility and policies toward United States owned energy companies have caused our current energy crisis. Her husband works for British Petroleum but instead should be working for the former American owned Arco Oil Company.

Sarah did a great job debating Joe Biden. She was smart and used the unfiltered airtime to speak directly to the American people. She had no choice. Did you see the interview with Katie Couric? It was like a quiz that the teacher forgot to tell you about. Katie looked so smug and intelligent until you think about the fact that she had the answers to the test. The questions were random and wide ranging. Quick, name one specific ruling of the Supreme Court that you disagree with and tell us why! I''d like to see Sarah interview Katie Couric and be just as ruthless.

I''ve always wondered, and now I''ll ask. How do you verify that "uncommitted voters" in your poll are actually uncommitted? Do they have to take a lie detector test? And do you just take their word for it that they''re Republican, or do you actually verify that they''re registered to any particular party?

Personally, I have a real hard time believing that any registered Republican or Democrat is not already leaning toward his own party, and chances are they''ll lean more and more that direction regardless of the debates.

At the end of the day, my question is out of your poll sampling of "uncommitted voters" how many are registered Democrats, Republicans or Independents? Wouldn''t those numbers be important?

Nah.....

Biden''s 35 years in Washington DC versus Palin''s 5 weeks in DC....and Biden won...??? AHAHAHAHAHA.... what a joke! Joe Biden was a talking head for Barack Obama...while Sarah Palin talked directly to the American people.

Not surprisingly, Joe Biden was quoted directly as saying...."he (Barack) was not ready to be Commander-In-Chief of this country".

I wonder what changed his mind...? Oh yeah...being offered the VP slot. SELL OUT...!

You supporters of Obama have to ask youself at least one question:
Posted by OneAmerican6 at 03:34 PM : Oct 04, 2008

And you McCain supports ask yourself this question

Mr. McCain''s took FEC money and once he had taken advantage of the system by gaining ballot access and securing a campaign saving loan, he won the New Hampshire primary and became the apparent nominee of the Republican Party. Then sent a letter saying that he was opting out of the primary process and claiming that the FEC is now impotent to stop him.
