A 5000.00credit to buy ones own insurance???i dont think so Mr. McCain. That will not cover a single person annually let alone afamimly on a group rate!If one is forced to purchase their own insurance non group--well that can be over 2000 a month.I purchase the policies for my work place.Mr McCain and the insurance experts need to refresh themselveson the actual costs!

I have health insurance through my company and my company benefit is about $8,000, lucky me. A tax credit of $2,500 would not help me. It would mean a tax increase....so therefore John McCain is wrong when he says that he would lower my taxes. I am part of the working middle class in this country.

My husband and I are over sixty and own a small business. We each pay $700/mo for health ins or $1400/mo total. That is $16,800/yr. We pay the premium through our business and thankfully, it is considered a business deduction (we don''t pay income tax on that $16,800.). If we lose that deduction and have to pay the $16,800 out of pocket, how is a $5000 tax credit supposed to help us or our business? McCain says that if he taxes health insurance benefits, employers will stop offering it and everyone will have to buy a personal policy- that way it removes health ins from your job. That is a good idea. (But not for small businesses where the employer IS the insured person) But he should make the entire amount a person pays for the premium is a tax credit on your personal tax form (1040)- the $5000 credit is inadequate and hurtful. Unless he can make sure no policy goes over the $5000/yr figure. I don''t know the difference between a tax credit and a tax deduction- maybe the credit would offset the whole premium? McCain needs to make this clear.
Last time I looked, Obama only had a plan for kids- nothing for adults. And Obama has promised so much to so many- with our deficits- he can''t deliver on any of it. Obama is just trying to get votes. I don''t trust him at all. At least McCain is trying.

McCain wants to let the companys off the hook on health insurance. the people of this country can not let this happen. If you have a lot of health problems you will not be covered.

Ok, I pay $300 per month for health insurance which equals $3600 per year since my husband is now on Medicare and his work place will not cover me any longer. The tax credit for a single person would be $2500 per year. I as calculating that I would be paying $1100 out my pocket. Hmmmm this is not adding up as a good thing for me!!!!! Another thing, how quick would that tax credit move with the increase in Insurance premium costs or ever??????? I am not seeing a "Good Thing" here at all. What is McCain/Palin thinking??? Plus, the insurance industry is way too powerful. They will decide who gets treatment and who does not even more than they do now with less regulation. Me thinks that they (McCain/Palin) have not been really ill and had to rely on their health insurance for payment of needed services.

Lou4who,
You''re confused. Your company still pay the $12,600. You will continue to pay $4600, or you might even buy a cheaper policy. Total exopenditure is still 17,200.
You will be taxed on $17,200. At a 30% tax bracket, your tax will be $5160. That''s pretty close to the tax credit.

McCains concept of giving middle class american%u2019s $5000 to purchase healthcare insurance and revitalize the economy is ludicrous. I pay $4300 a year for my portion of my health insurance and my company pay $12600 a year. There is no way with a mere $5000, if I would even qualify for the incentive, I could by the same level of insurance. Anyone who has tried to purchase health insurance on their own knows this. McCain has not truly investigated this plan, he would actually be hurting me, a middle class American.

Obama also wants insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditons (i.e. cancer) if you change companies.
McCain sides with insurance companies so they chan charge anything they want or refuse people with pre-existing conditions.

Independent studies by nonpartisan non-profit groups have stated, over and over, that Obama tax policies will LOWER TAXES for the middle-class MORE than McCain tax policies will.

Look it up at a nonpartisan site: http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/

It''s PAST TIME for TERM LIMITS. Maybe then we would actually have elected officials working for all Americans instead of just working to extend their careers. Most politicians probably start out with noble intentions - but become jaded, out-of-touch, and self-serving the longer they stay.

Sorry my keyboard is acting up, I spilled coffee on it.

I think my post is readable though.

Capitalism + small amount of socialism = happy USA

Free reign capitalism = unequal pay for women, collusion, market failure, and infrastructre collapse, no education for the poor.

Just to give you an idea how much it costs for an individual policy with pre-existing conditions, I pay $788 per month just for me, and another $389 per month for my wife.
