Obama is doing this because of the disastorous appointments he has seen his predecessors make because they didn''t vet the people they chose. There is a probable difference between appointments and career positions -- this requirement to my understanding only applies to appointments. Such vetting will be done for all appointments requiring Senate confirmation making it wise for a president to check before congress or others do.

I don''t think the type of people Obama will be "appointing" even Blog at all. Not that Obama would appoint McCain, but McCain openly admits he doesn''t even know how to use a computer. McCain would be a good selection for Secretary of Defense by the way.
