The content creators for the entertainment industry are admittedly a niche market, but it is a very high profile one, and both MS and Apple are dropping the ball on us being able to take advantage of all the new processing power of the current hardware.

I will continue with my nearly bullet proof XP Pro for at least 2 more years (maybe three)I have no trouble with it what so ever. I just bought my wife a laptop with Vista on it already. (I will not detail the horrific learning curve and seemingly unsolvable other frustrations but as soon as the warranty period expires, I am ripping it out and replacing it with XP Pro)

"The truth is, Vista is a fine OS, especially after SP1. You need a certain level of technical knowledge to fully tweak its stability and capability. For those unwilling to learn these tweaks ..."

No, the truth is that while Vista may work well with some applications and is very pretty, it presents major problems in business/corporate/government environments.

There''s always some kid out there on a freestanding machine who simply doesn''t understand that a lot of Microsoft''s sales are corporate where the problems are different. Unfortunately, some of those kids work for MS itself, or they''d be working on cleaning up bugs and not creating havoc with frills that have limited application. Most of us don''t run movies on work PCs, most of us limit access to the web to safeguard proprietary information and increase productivity, and a lot of us have to justify the extreme costs of an upgrade with more than a new interface.

Problem is Windows 32-bit doesn''t access more than 4 gigs of RAM.

Windows 64-bit will access as much RAM as you can stuff into your machine, but there are very few 64-bit programs/games that will run on it.
