- Terror. If they are isolated, in the middle of the jungle as are some tribes in South America, they are non-hispanic because they are not living in hispanic culture. Their culture is native

- I said they had an ancestral connection to the Iberian penninsula, which the majority of people in Central and South America be they native or not have. The ones that don''t are non hispanic. None of which contradicts what I have already said. Also I said, that primarily, the proper usage of the word if in reference to people of that background living in the US. Learn to read.

- Tracy, that wasn''t my definition. Learn to read. You are illiterate, shut up.

- Less yada and more noting that his definition, "or other Spanish culture or origin", contradicted his first statement that "not because they came from spain,,,".

- Terror, I agree with your definition, however that wasn''t the point I was making with Tracy. Less Yada and more reading and you would have known that

- Tracy, all you have to do is ask a non practising jew with ancestors from ancient Israel if he has jewish background. Many will tell you yes, go argue with them.

yada yada yada and hispanics can speak english and many other languages,,, they are still hispanic,,, not because they came from spain,,,
REGARDLESS OF RACE,,,
Definitions of Hispanic:
A person of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South American or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race. - Reply to this comment
- "all of central and south america and the spanish speaking caribbean are considered hispanics,,,
Posted by terrorislami at 01:43 PM : Jun 16, 2008"
Correct, because they were all Spanish or Portuguese colonies or territories from the early 1600''s onwards.
You have to include Brazil in there too as a Hispanic country even though they do not speak Spanish. - Reply to this comment

- "The majority of the residents in central and south america cant claim european descent, yet the speak spanish. They are still "hispanic" even if they are of Aztec descent.
Posted by trracymorgan at 01:38 PM : Jun 16, 2008"
Partly correct, those peoples who are of Aztec descent are also of Spanish or Portuguese descent. The fact that they speak Spanish does not make them Hispanic, it is the fact that some of their ancestors were from Iberia.
Your first contention is not correct, Spain and Portugal are part of Europe so anyone who is any part Spanish or Portuguese is in fact partly of European descent. - Reply to this comment
- Iberian Peninsula,,, BS,,, what is the matter haji,,, your cannot say spain or portugal,,,
all of central and south america and the spanish speaking caribbean are considered hispanics,,, - Reply to this comment
- Tracy, the majority do have some spanish background. The ones that don''t can''t say their hispanic because they speak spanish. I am a complete and total gringo, I speak spanish and portuguese, and yet I''m not hispanic. Your definition as well as its premise simply wrong.

doctor2012: I find the best thing to do when confronted by an idiot is to ignore them. If you respond to them, it lends credibility to their arguements and enhances their own opinons of worth. - Reply to this comment
- "I dont have the time to educate fools that religion and language arent "genetically" passed on.
Posted by trracymorgan at 01:35 PM : Jun 16, 2008"
No one is saying that and there''s nothing to teach here since that''s about *** obvious a statement as you can make.
Your contention was that the ethnic category "Hispanic" is based on language and that''s simply not correct. - Reply to this comment
