- bethorr, I have no idea what you''re talking about. Since when has Barack refused to pledge allegiance to the flag? I believe you are referring to the video of Barack standing respectfully while the national anthem was being played. As a former Sailor and current Navy employee I know that is the correct attitude to take when the anthem is played, as it is every day when the flag is raised on the base I work on, not standing with your hand over your heart. Only when you pledge allegiance do you put your hand over your heart.
