My problem with Romney is this: I don''t know where he stands.

As much as I disagree with McCain, at least I know where he stands.

To all the Romney supporters, the question I''ve asked before is this:

How do you know he''ll still hold the same positions 2 years from now?

Answer: You don''t.

AllenFuller, please recheck your facts. We understand you are a Huckabee supporter, but the race is boiling down to 2 candidates now. Mitt Romney is by far the most conservative and experienced in the real world of the two. His stands on every issue in Mass. (health care, family values, economy, abortion) ALL were true conservative Republican stands on these issues. His CEO experience allows him to solve problems by surrounding himself with the best of the best. Please consider Mitt as your candidate if things don''t work out for Huckabee.

These gals say it better than I. Romney''s CV is nothing short of spectacular. This is the kind of CV we have always wanted in a presidential candidate. A proven commodity who knows how to get the job done.

Don''t get me wrong, Romney has a decent record. It''s not horrible, but it''s just not as stellar as he puffs it up to be.

The thing that really turns people off is his political ambition, and his willingness to do anything to get where he wants to be.

Yes, he did save the Olympics. But during the Olympics many observed that a lot of what he did was geared toward enhancing his own reputation. For example, when he took over he made it sound worse than it really was so he could be all the greater for saving it.

Running for Governor in Massachusetts, Romney took on some very liberal positions. But just a year or two after entering office, he started veering strongly to the right. He used a lot of sleight of hand to keep his record "clean". Whenever there was something that had to be done but might appear controversial in a Republican primary, he took pains to make sure it was done by the legislature. For example, when he created his health care plan in Massachusetts, he made sure to veto key parts that Republicans wouldn''t like but on which he knew the legislature would simply override his veto.

He faced a budget crunch, just like most governors of most states at the time, including Huckabee. But he disguised his tax increases as "fees" and as "closing corporate tax loopholes." The net effect was the same: money going from the private sector to the government increased by hundreds of millions of dollars.

In this race, he showed his true character by falsely savaging the only other governor in the race, Huckabee. Very early on, as far back as 2005, Romney spread around large sums of money to various conservative organizations. This ensured that they viewed him favorably. In Iowa, Romney''s attack ads against Huckabee were so distorted that FactCheck.org had to write TWO full-length articles detailing all the distortions and falsehoods.

The Club for Growth, a conservative economic organization, ran extremely distorted and damaging ads against Huckabee''s tax record, when their own figures show that the tax increase during Romney''s term was greater per year than the tax increase during Huckabee''s term. The Club for Growth may have done some good things but they are not perfect nor free from political agendas. Public records show that prominent supporters of Romney gave over half a million dollars to the Club for Growth for this specific attack ad.

And this in spite of Huckabee praising Romney back in 2005, even as both were exploring their presidential possibilities. Huckabee went as far as to say he would support Romney if his own run did not work out.

But now because of Romney''s actions, I very much doubt Huckabee would be able to stomach supporting him. All the other Republican candidates have come to feel an unusually strong antipathy to Romney.

He has no class. He interrupted McCain''s concession speech in Michigan and failed to call Huckabee to congratulate him on his win in Iowa. He says it''s not personal, that he thinks of all of them as "friends"... while he is stabbing them in the back. Doesn''t that say something about his character?

Romney''s record as governor of Massachusetts is really not that stellar. Northeastern University economist Andrew Sum, who has researched Romney''s record, said the state lagged the U.S. average during that period in job creation, economic growth and wage increases.

"As a strict labor market economist looking at the record, Massachusetts did very poorly during the Romney years, he said. "On every measure you''ve got, the state was a substantial under-performer."

Romney sugar-coats his record, and cherry-picks his facts and figures to paint a very rosy picture of his accomplishments. The Fact Checker has given him multiple Three Pinocchio ratings and even a Four Pinocchio rating (the worst) for some of his claims.

I would encourage people to take a closer look at Huckabee. Huckabee is the only other governor in this race, and he has a record in Arkansas more than twice as long as Romney''s. Allies of Romney funded the Club for Growth''s early attacks on Huckabee, which curiously started running ads against Huckabee far before he was much of a blip on the national radar.

Yet many Arkansas businessmen, who know Huck''s record, came out recently in support of Huckabee and stated that the Club for Growth''s ad was misleading. A closer look at the facts on Romney''s own record, on the Club for Growth''s own website (stripped of editorializing), shows his record was at least as questionable as Huckabee''s.

The fact is that Huckabee governed extremely well, raising Arkansas education standards from well below average nationwide to 8th in the nation, and repairing one of the nation''s worst road systems. He cut spending to the bone before being forced to raise taxes to cover a budget shortfall.

On the social issues, Huckabee has a proven record of supporting life and marriage whereas all Romney offers are flip-flops and promises. Huckabee can DEFINITELY be trusted on these issues but Romney not at all.

Romney is the best Republican candidate out there. He is truly a statesman, would never attack anybody personally but will drill you on issues. His kindness shows how he treats his wife and children.

Mitt Romney is a smart man and HE WILL DO WHAT HE CLAIMS. He is a
man of INTEGRITY and I hope his message gets to the people. Our Future depends on it. WE are in a very bad situation in this country.
We do not need a "Status Quo" President. We need a turnaround from the direction we are going in and Mitt is the one to do this.

Mitt Romney is, in my opinion, the BEST candidate for the Republicans. Romney is a very sharp man--I have been following the candidates for some time now. It is now very clear to me that there is only one choice for getting our country and the people the results that we need. Mitt is by far the best option. Not only that HE can triumph over The Ice Queen Hillary--We can NOT afford another 4-8 years of Clintons in office. They, the Clintons, are Master Deceivers--She completely CREAPS me out.
MITT ROMNEY--He can and will lead this country to a better future for us and for future generations Of this I am completely convinced.

Quote From "One Lie Too Many"
http://www.time-blog.com/swampland/2008/01/one_lie_too_many.html

"If Bain Capital was going to invest in the auto industry, what segment would it invest in, and how would that help Michigan?" Salon''s Mike Madden actually got that in, but it elicited a non-answer: "I''ve been out of the private sector too long to advise people on that kind of thing." In other words, his experience in the private sector is relevant, until he''s called upon to use it.

It''s UNBELIEVABLE to me that anyone could even consider McCain as the top guy! What are people thinking? He wants to prove something in a war that can''t be "won", saying he''ll stay there 100 years if needed! His policy for illegals is to give them amnesty! Americans have voiced strongly that they don''t either of these positions running the country. Yet, he''s predicted as the front runner! I don''t get it.

Romney is the only choice! He''s a business manager that can fix this broken country.

Mitt is definately the best executive. Mccain can woo the media and fellow politicians, but his "straight talk" is fooling fewer and fewer by the day. He is a politician to the core. He may be a nice guy, but he is all talk. Romney is all action.
