Comments on: Some Racist Remarks In Europe Over Obama
Washington Post: Some Public Figures Display Open Scorn, While Others Make Unintentional Racial Blunders
I see nothing wrong with this comment, either. If your tradition is based on hate, you should review it. If you can''''t change yourself, how do you expect others to change?

Here''s something to ponder........ have a white person walk through one of the South Side Chicago neighborhoods. Too many people speak and act as if only white people can be racist. I lived in Chicagoland for many many years and found out first hand just how racists some/many blacks can be. That pendulum swings both ways.- Reply to this comment

M.Ob has every right to her opinion and to voice it ..... the problem is trying to force one''s opinion on others - legally or otherwise. Maybe some don''t want to change their traditions just to appease her or anyone else.....whatever those traditions may be. (no, mine do not stem from hate) Many people have fought and died that we (all of us) may speak our minds, converse, make our own traditions.......doesn''t matter what the conversation. I wonder if she is trying to convince the most (un)gracious Rev.Wright to change is conversation; his blaspheming? I love the USA; I am proud of the USA; I hate no one nor do I surround myself with those who do hate........- Reply to this comment
- tj217,
I think you misunderstood my comment. My comment was to someone who said blacks voted for Obama only based on color. I didn''t agree with it. The ONLY time most blacks thought about color was in the perspective of hoping that a black president was a sign of racial change in this country. I also said that blacks voted for the Democratic person 90% of the time anyway. - Reply to this comment

And, I''m surprised you find more issue with this than a possible VP who didn''t know the three countries in NAFTA. - Reply to this comment
- sunbum33919,
To a certain extent, if someone wants to be a fool, they should be allowed to be a fool. HOWEVER, when the foolishness affects other Americans rights to LIFE, LIBERTY, JUSTICE the U.S. government has every right to step in. That''s what happened in the Jim Crow South and the government had EVERY RIGHT. That''s what happened during the civil war, and the government had EVERY RIGHT. Human rights ALWAYS trump states'' rights. And, what I''ve seen about states'' rights OFTENTIMES is this...my right to take away other people''s rights!! - Reply to this comment
- we might actually be moving towards a color-blind society.
*******
But people can''t and shouldn''t be forced to be "color blind"...... it has to come from within; from the heart; not because the government or some other person says so. As soon-to-be first lady M.Ob said: we must change our conversations; our traditions. If anything, this sort of rhetoric will only cause even more difficulties. Society may pretend to be color blind but it will never ever truly be......nope. - Reply to this comment
- And why not since it was Republicans who freed the blacks and fought the Jim Crow laws only to have blacks turn their backs on them.
No good turn goes unpunished eh?

True, Lincoln was a Republican and it is also true that up until the 1950s most African Americans were Republican. But it was NOT the Republicans who fought against the jim crow laws in the 60s and 70s..it was the Democrates eh - Reply to this comment

- JFK made a stir when he became the first Catholic president. Now, nobody even thinks about being Catholic as an issue. I think most blacks are hoping that we are on this way from a color-perspective as well. But, it always takes a first.

It was open-minded whites who supported Obama first. Most blacks supported Obama from a color perspective ONLY in the sense of hoping, dreaming, wishing that having more Americans see him as leader for all would mean that we might actually be moving towards a color-blind society. - Reply to this comment
- I''m not shocked by the remarks by some European leaders. Being the"first"of anything is not easy and you can expect to take some hits from old bigot farts. The way you shut people up is to do a good job. Four years from now these same people will be will be praising President Obama.

Nope. The Republican party is now made up of all the DIXIECRAPS that were what made the Democratic Party STINK. GOOD RIDDANCE! Unfortunately, the FEW good Republicans remaining wish they could dispose of this virus. I used to be a Republican. - Reply to this comment
- Oh for heaven''s sake. As a black woman, I wouldn''t let these comments bother me at all. There are going to be negative comments about ANY person elected President. Race is the subject that is bound to get the biggest reaction, so it is no surprise that it is used to express sour grapes. Imagine what the atmosphere was like when slavery was abolished. The thing is, it didn''t stop progress then and it won''t now. Racism is alive and well, but with each new generation, it is pushed further and further to the fringes of society. In 100 years, virtually everyone on this planet right now will be gone and just a little bit more tolerance will be apparent. For those of us who can look past our differences and embrace what is common to us all, this is our time. Everyone is free to climb aboard. If not, you can either try to block the way or step to the side but I guarantee you will be run over or left behind.

- It''''s just a bit ridiculous considering that MOST blacks anyway vote for the Democrats because the Republicans have been pandering to the racists since Nixon''''s Southern Strategy.

- The rest of the world is entitled to voice their opinions......maybe we should pay attention. From my understanding,,,,the P.E.Ob is supposed to unite the world..... one big happy pappy family..... even if it''s forced - you''ll be happy or else! He may envision himself as the Pied Piper of the New One World Order but some of us are not listening to the music.

Since 90% of blacks voted for Kerry and Gore, I guess they were voting on color there as well?
