When I was a kid this was called gossip that occurred over the fences between the yards. Wiser people in those days considered this information unreliable. With the anonymity if the internet -- this is now blogging and for some unexplained reason is accorded greater validity than the gossip of old. One protection from this is to research the source references -- but also independently research similar references from independent sources.
