Comments on: Houses Add Up To A Snag For McCain
Washington Post: Republican's Campaign Has Cast Obama As Elitist
- xmanborg:
So what you''re saying is that if John McCain hadn''t bought those houses, there would be 21 fewer automobiles, 28 fewer bathrooms, 28 fewer toilets, 14 fewer front and back yards and lawns, and 7 fewer swimming pools? My guess is that someone probably would have built houses, whether or not John McCain was living in them or not. Obviously this does however explode the myth that we require "immigrant labor" to meet the construction industries needs. Building all these houses, yards and pools where nobody is home most of the time, just doesn''t make sense. Then again, there would be those who would defame both candidates for sitting on their wallets and not spending some of their cash. Apparently, unless you''re broke or in debt, you won''t make a good President, unfortunately, if you are broke and in debt, you''ll never get a chance to run for President. It''s a conundrum allright! - Reply to this comment
- How much incompetence is it going to take for this man to finally get called on how stupid he really is?

- It''s ridiculous and hypocritical for anyone to debase eithr Senator McCain or Senator Obama for their financial wherewithal. Isn''t this one of the arguments made about elected office? One must be rich to run for office. Indeed, if either Obama or McCain were the "average Joe", living on the average American''s means, regardless of how well intentioned or skilled either of these men are, I doubt we''d see either of them running for or holding any elected office. With perhaps the exception of Congressman Ron Paul, everyone who has run for this Presidential season has been "rich". It senseless to suggest that rich people are unfit to hold office when we tolerate a system that reclused all but the rich from running for office. Ideally, any native born American Citizen could aspire to the Presidency. Unfortunately, we''ve allowed corruption and money to control our failed two party system for too long. If you want someone who wears jeans and a T-shirt, and Converse high-tops to work, a guy who barely makes end meet, then I''m available. To be honest with you, I could also probably do a lot better job than our present choice of Candidates. Admitedly, I''m different, I''d only want the job for the good I could do, and not the good that the job would do for me!

- The McCain real estate issue is really ridiculous. What ever happened to the real issues of the campaign? The Democrats imply having a lot of money is an evil thing. Yet, many of the Democrat leaders such as Clinton, Kerry, Kennedy, Feinstein, Boxer, Corsine, Pelosi, Edwards and others are very wealthy. Having homes and money is only an issue if it belongs to a Republican. How "in touch" with the average voter are the Democrats mentioned above? Not one is hurting or can relate to what some Americans are experiencing. And, how many averge voters live in a 1.4 million dollar home like the Obamas?

- This is a pretty pathetic article. Anyone who remotely follows the lives of political figures in the US, know that all Federal politicians have money after they spend several years in the federal office. I don''t know of too many congressional members who are not ''rich''. Do you?

- Come on now, 7 houses sin''t that many for entertaining Washington lobbyists. 2 condos on the same beach are understandable when you take into account the overflow party crowds.

- Can you say hypocrisy, here we have Exxon John accusing Obama of being and ''elitist.''
Amazing what happens when these slanders hit the light of day.
When he resorts to these kinds of falsehoods, and casts such aspersions on his opponent%u2019s patriotism, John McCain is no longer putting his country first. If he were, he would recognize that the interests of the nation require a relatively truthful campaign. To fulfill his image of himself, McCain should stop lying about his opponent. For a man with his claims to honor and integrity, that%u2019s not too much to ask. - Reply to this comment
- I wish I could not remember how many houses I own.
This just goes to show you that McLame is suffering from Altimers.

- Any argument between politicians in this country about who''s the richest or who''s further removed from the general populace is somewhat ridiculous. None of them exactly return to a $600 a month bedsit when they go home!
However it is interesting to point out that the Obamas are both self-made and come from humble beginnings, while the MacCains money is all inherited at it''s roots - hers from a beer distibutor. Given the religious right''s attitude to alcohol isn''t it rather wierd that their choice of first lady is someone who makes her living selling it? - Reply to this comment
