Washington Post: Democrat Has New Focus On Pocketbook Issues As He Faces Off Against Clinton In Wisconsin, Ohio And Texas
- Here are some realities that neither group wants to face: Both candidates are establishment insiders
Both are corporate-state politicians. Large sources of Obama money are law firms, investment houses, and real estate companies, and 80 percent of his donors are affiliated with business, compared to 85 percent for Clinton.Neither are true progressives or populists, like Kucinich and Edwards.
Both Clinton the fighter and Obama the talker will sell out once they confront presidential realities. Why? Because plutocracies know how to retain power AFTER elections. After two years it will be clear that the new president will have failed to extract the US from Iraq, will have failed to deliver universal health care, will have failed to address illegal immigration, will have done nothing to get a new and serious 9/11 investigation, will have done nothing to stop middle-class-killing globalization, and will have utterly disappointed the vast majority of Americans.
Finally, for those seeking serious political system reforms, it is troubling that neither Clinton nor, especially, Obama have the courage to advocate needed constitutional amendments, such as replacing the Electoral College with the popular vote for president, getting all private money out of politics, making universal health care a right, and preventing presidential signing statements that undermine laws. - Reply to this comment
- Obama or Hillary...who cares as long as one of them gets elected.
Anything but a neocon. I''''d vote for a dead cat over a neocon.

- Well Prinzo, I can certainly understand your concerns and desire for detail but keep in mind... none of these people running for President are Economists and even if they did present a 200 plus page economic policy with all the grisly minutia... the average American wouldnt be able to digest it.
Economically speaking I look for a candidate to have a general lean or direction..Barack is all for lender accountability... that goes a very long way with the average joe. Predatory lending is a big reason for a lot of our economic ills.
Militarily... no candidate is a 5 star General, so in my mind they are not the real commander in chief... just figureheads. Barack is not going to cut and run, he wants to try skinning the cat another way. I am all for that. its time for the Iraqi Govt to pull their weight and free up US troops to do other missions in the war on terror and re-equip.
I think Barack is a very competent Man... I feel that he will be the one... to put the best people in the best spots to run our country because he is the one running as a uniter and the least swayed by PAC dollars.
We the people are paying for this mans campaign... he owes his allegiance to US... not Blue Cross, Not Halliburton, Not Tobacco and firearms.
The election is always a gamble... I want to go in a different direction and Im gambling on Barack when we vote in FT Hood Texas in 3 weeks. - Reply to this comment
- At the time NAFTA was being debated Clinton and Gephardt were at one another''''s throats over the issue of including worker and environmental protections. Bubba sold out to the business community and screwed the Unions.
I''''m not one of these Democrats who bashes NAFTA entirely, but not including these protections was a mistake that will need to be revisited. It just so happens that Obama has called for revisiting NAFTA and renegotiating these provisions with Mexico & Canada.
What''''s Hillary''''s position...anyone?

What a lie she absolutely did and all trade requires enforcement by the governments it built in and Bush cronies opened the flood gates and compounded the movement of Jobs with double tax credits that spurred the lose and health care reform has to happen which was a nether piece of Bill Clintons Platform if you recall, as long as employers in the US have to carry the health care burden nothing is going to stop job loss nothing%u2026but spur jobs out of here%u2026
Ignore that doofus Michael Moore he is a liberal purist health care is also a trade and cost issue for business.
Tell the truth

Uhm right, there were labor and environmental protections built in to NAFTA, sure, if you say so. That why at the height of Perot''s sucking sound the wages down there were ~ 1.75 hour.- Reply to this comment
