Washington Post: Candidate Last Saw His Father In 1971, And Spent Years Trying To Understand Him
- Boy, that is a strange looking wrinkle in Huck''s inner thigh, and the plaid pants makes it stand out more, let us hope that the photographer, or someone very near was a very pretty lady...

- Jesus hated dogma. Jesus hated religion that exploited its believers and guilted them into blind obediance. Jesus hated self-appointed ''lightning rods of God''s words'' who became wealthy by self-righteous displays and ceremonies that declared they, alone, had inside knowledge that actually prevented individuals from having one-on-one relationships with God. He threw a hissy-fit at a temple because all he saw going on was a marketing program based on selling things ''essential'' for forgiveness of God on behalf of hypocrites posing as God''s instruments.
I don''t see much difference in the Pharasees that Jesus denounced in his day from the priests and ministers of today who require payment to support their extravagant lifestyles in exchange for sharing their ''personal conversations'' that only they are able to receive from God. God gave all of us a brain and the ability to have personal guidance and understanding of His word, if we so choose. It''s not mandatory and remains a decision each one can choose to accept or reject. People who give up their right to think for themselves and let people become wealthy off of their blind obediance get what they deserve.
True messengers of God have members giving abundantly to those in need and doing it without all the fan fair and boasting. Throwing money into a collection plate is just too easy and releases the person from having to actually extend charity personally and annonymously, as instructed by God. - Reply to this comment
- So, if you turn on Creflo Dollar, Kenneth Copeland, Frederick Price, Joel Olsteen, and even John Hagee, you will see that God speaks to them, as well, through prayer and the Bible, but primarily through the written Word of God.

What I see is a pack of con men swindling people out of millions, while they live in mansions and drive Rolls Royce''s. And all their followers jump up and down and yell amen. What a wacky world this is. - Reply to this comment

The dinner table has simply changed its'' appearance, it is now called "capitalism" and has been totally corrupted. Your children''s future is being eaten today by the war profiteers, the money we paid in Social Security deductions over the course of our working lives has disappeared, our own future has been eaten, and now we are killing innocent Iraqis, this time literally spilling blood for the profit of a few.
Actually, we are dumb animals eating each other for lunch, look around you... - Reply to this comment
- I am beginning to think religion is just another mental disorder.
Posted by jmcgilvray
Not really, it started as a method to provide reasoning for, and thus assuage the fear of that which at the time could not be rationally understood, before empirical reason was practiced. Then it became a means to sucker the slave populations into accepting their condition of servitude, promising "eternal pie in the sky by and by" in exchange for compliance and submission in the present life, and no resistance to the slave drivers, who would have to "atone" or pay for their inhumanities, also in some afterlife.
The practitioners were basically trapped by those who were in position to manipulate the followers, as one is constantly forced to prove their adherence to the group philosophy, when information surfaces contrary to the professed beliefs, the followers, now trapped by their own vows and words, are forced to ignore it, or deny it, under penalty of;
1. Eternal suffering inflicted by their deity,
2. Sanctions inflicted by those in control,
3. Expulsion from the group, or worst case,
4. Death, should those in control have the color of legal authority.
So it is not a mental disorder, rather it is mass manipulation, just like the secular media uses to convince people that Saddam had WMDs, now that we know it was a lie, notice how many still profess to believe it... - Reply to this comment

A relationship with Jesus Christ is something you DO, not something you talk about. So, if you turn on Creflo Dollar, Kenneth Copeland, Frederick Price, Joel Olsteen, and even John Hagee, you will see that God speaks to them, as well, through prayer and the Bible, but primarily through the written Word of God. That is how He speaks to me, through His written Word. And if I accidentally leave the Bible out in the open to someone who is being convicted by the Holy Ghost who reads a specific passage that speaks to him, he will be either angry or repentant. - Reply to this comment

Well, God talks to YOU. And you can''t deny it! And it makes you mad, don''t it? - Reply to this comment

Well, I know it always ends up a discussion about God and religion. And I believe that my belief in God gives me a more complete world view and the state of mankind in these times.
I will fight for your right to believe what you will.
But, if it is clear that you have no earthly IDEA what you are talking about, I''m going to exploit it. It''s just in my nature. - Reply to this comment
- JMC..and I agree with those philosophers. Religion is merely a tool for man to put himself in a position to get closer to God. However, man tends to substitute things he can''t see with things that he can see. Religion makes things very easy for you. You walk into a building, listen to a guy talk for an hour, pray and sing some songs, and maybe even open the Bible once. It''s quick, easy, and convenient. If you do everything right, you rise pretty much effortlessly without a change of heart. Oh but a change of heart and an actual relationship with God...Our Invisible Creator, our Father ... now ... THAT''S HARD. If it ain''t easy, we don''t want it.

Sir, there comes a time when your argument becomes ridiculous as well. Now YOU are generalizing and saying because one has faith they are mentally ill. Tread carefully there sir, because that street goes both ways.
You don''t want to believe in God. Good. Don''t.
The other gentleman wants to believe in God. Good. He lives in American where he can. I thank God!
We are all souls here connected by a very thin thread that makes us humans with a conscience. Otherwise we''d all be dumb animals and eating each other for lunch.
The Bible is the ONLY history we have. And as we all know, history can be distorted. However, factually and scientifically it has been proven that much of that history is true as to we have anthropoligical proof that a lot of those people existed. So we know that it is not the total lie that some would have us believe. We also have many scholars, both scientists and historians trying to sort out what actually happened. Those people believed in God. What right does anybody else have to poo poo that belief, unless THEY have proof otherwise. And to date, NOBODY has that proof. - Reply to this comment

That is why we have a Bible and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Without a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, it is impossible to make sense of spiritual things. And He doesn''t reveal secrets to people who don''t believe in Him. - Reply to this comment

You''re cracked. Or on crack. I''m not sure which.
If you read the thing without prejudice and preconceived ideas, you will see. And if you are worried about translation, well, there are books that aid you in the translation. And the Bible is not just ONE book, it''s a library of 66 books.
So, if you want to know the mind and will of God, read the Bible. Start in the New Testament, though. That will clear up a whole lot. The Old Testament was primarily for the Jews before Christ came. The New Testament is for ALL after Christ came. Otherwise translated...Old Will: New Will. - Reply to this comment

Well, it just goes to show you that you haven''t really TRIED to make sense of the Bible. You read it with prejudice and preconceived ideas. Furthermore, it is a summary of the actions of both men and God, which many times clash. You have to be able to tell the difference. And many do not. One thing that you will find is that God is consistent all the way through the Bible, while mankind is confused. And it is the same today. Everything you see in the Bible you will see today. Nothing has changed. God is STILL consistent, and mankind is STILL confused.
Well, one thing has changed, and that is that Jesus died for our sins, and made it possible for us to be in relationship with God without having to sacrifice doves, goats, lambs, and bulls to cover our sins. - Reply to this comment

Well, you''re making a blanket assumption that Christians are anti-Semetic and agree with owning slaves. Frankly, I''m a Christian who is a Germanic-Polish Jew with a twist of Indian. And none of my family roots can be traced back to slave owners. On the contrary, we are to aid the nation of Israel, pray for the peace of Jerusalem, pray for the salvation of the Jew, and disapprove of the slavery of ANY man, woman, or child. - Reply to this comment
- Atheism meand "a lack of belief in the existence of a God or gods" it doesn''''t mean one is "without God". If there is a God, you might be "with Him" and not know it. "Theism" means "the doctrine or belief in the existence of a God or gods," and the "A" in front negates the rest of the word.
Posted by GladImNotOJ at 11:17 PM : Dec 15, 2007
Absolutely. Atheism is an understanding that there is no god to be with or without. Saying that one is without god implies that there is a god to be without from. There is no god. - Reply to this comment
- As for Davis Hume, if he denies the existence of a god and calls himself an atheist because of it then more power to him. That said the only thing atheists have in common is the label. The name. Other then that there is no brotherhood, no fellowship, no common understandings, no church or building or newspaper or street corner handouts. I suppose there are some people who claim to be atheists who feel a need to join together, but as far as I''m concerned that means that they are not true atheists, just people pis*sed at the myth of a god. The are deniers of god in the sense that they still think there actually is one that they oppose.
