- "We are talking about the possible next president of the united states! and this was his spiritual mentor. "
Your concerns are based on recklessly clipped soundbites. If you have ever listened to a single one of Rev. Wright''s sermons, you would understand that his viewpoints are the same as other respected Christian leaders around the country. Your bigotry and blind-sightedness in this regard is repulsive.
I''m more concerned about the way McCain would handle this planet''s current financial crisis. His ties to Mr. Keating and the verdict that he turned a blind eye to the Keating scandal when he could have stopped it have huge ramifications for this nation. The Keating scandal was a sign of times to come; deregulation led to the problems in that scandal, and yet McCain wanted to promote more deregulation until weeks into this current financial disaster, when he made a sudden about-face, just as he has with other policies in an attempt to copy Senator Obama''s standings and take some of his voting base.
McCain''s economic policies would leave millions more jobless. This is a much more immediate concern to this nation than someone''s *faith,* or even terrorism, which kills far less than this economic disaster will. - Reply to this comment
- @sommertime6: "Who are you to go out and sterotype half of the country!!??"
I should add that your attempt at feigning compassion is fooling no one. After promoting such broad and baseless attacks against a candidate supported both by liberal and moderate democrats as well as moderate and *conservative* republicans, you have no right to express hurt at a statement indicative of your mentality.
Hypocrisy at its finest.

- What lies are you concerned about? There''s no question Obama worked with Ayers during the last 10 years. There have been others from both parties that have also worked with Ayers. If any of them were to be running for president I would think we should check out the nature of their relationship with any known terrorists they may have had. But its not just Ayers. Obama has also kept company with extremists like Saul Alinsky and most disturbing; his 20 year close relationship with Rev Wright, a man you preaches rage from the pulpit, curses our country and voices his hatred of white america. How can you have a spiritual mentor for so long with these kinds of beliefs. Was Obama just tolerating them for that long or does he actually relate to those philosophies? That concerns me. Even if Obama doesn''t agreen with Rev Wright, what kind of judgement does it show to sit under that kind of influence with your family for that amount of time. I feel I should have at least some legitimate concern here. We are talking about the possible next president of the united states! and this was his spiritual mentor.

- "Who are you to go out and sterotype half of the country!!?? Are you so close minded that you would not only refuse to listen to another point of view but you feel you have the right to declare everyone who does not agree with you to be liers? Your statement is as offensive as the very trash you are trying to rebutt."
@sommertime6, please learn to fully examine a statement prior to countering it, as it only serves to make yourself seem like a fool.
The vast majority of red-leaning voters in this nation are conservative, not neoconservative. I have great respect for conservatives and their limited-government ideals. However, neoconservatives stand completely against conservative ideals with their deficit-spending and pro-large-government policies.
Thank you for commenting. It''s about time I taught someone the difference between conservatism and neoconservatives. Neoconservatives are only the ones seeking to impose their rights-depriving mindset upon others. People like you who slander others for the sake of political gain fall into this category. - Reply to this comment

- Element51 is correct. Those of us here who are presenting viewpoints against neoconservative attack lines are doing so because these lines of attack must be stopped. This is how Bush deceived the entire nation in 2000 and 2004; we cannot allow this to happen a third time.

- schlprt....You are right. But you must understand that some of us on here are simply trying to counter the lies that are being told. To us it is important that people at least have the opportunity to see the truth for themselves. If we do not at least try, people will have no truth to base their decisions on. We can''t just sit back and remain silent. Please understand that we are not making false statements.

- whiner245a....In reference to the quote from Obama''s book "Audicity of Hope." "I will stand with the muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction." You have taken this quote entirely out of context and you know it. What he was refering to was that he would stand by American citizens, muslims, if they started to be abused. That is as it should be. No group of law abiding American citizens should be ignored if they are being treated badly. You try to use this quote to infer that Obama is a terrorist supporter. That is a lie and you know it. It is not possible that you could be that stupid. There are millions of muslims who are good people and only want to be left alone to persue the same things in life that we all treasure. They are not all terrorist. If they were, to say that we could ever "win" in Iraq would be absolutely ridiculous.

- whiner245a, please don''t state half-truths. One of your statements was a rewording of a passage from The Audacity of Hope, p. 261
"# I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.
This statement is a rewording of a passage from page 261 of The Audacity of Hope, in which Barack Obama spoke of the importance of not allowing inflamed public opinion to result in innocent members of immigrant groups being stripped of their rights, denied their due as American citizens, or placed into confinement, as was done with Japanese-Americans during World War II. The original contains no specific mention of "Muslims":
In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific reassurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

- After the elections and administration change we are going to sell Alaska to the Russians. Soon the governor of Alaska will be known as Sarah Palin-Putin.

- Readers, sommertime6 is an example of a person who twists facts in his own favor. Here is my response to his allegations:
"There are no lies here; direct exerpts from factcheck.org are below. "
There isn''t a single excerpt in your post.
"In addition, Obama told the Chicago Tribune in 1997 that a book Ayers wrote about the juvenile court system was ''a searing and timely account.''"
It was. All charges against Ayers were thrown out, and a number of his initiatives were supported by republicans. From FactCheck:
"The education project described in the Web ad, far from being "radical," had the support of the Republican governor and was run by a board that included prominent local leaders, including one Republican who has donated $1,500 to McCain''s campaign this year. The project is described by Education Week as reflecting "mainstream thinking" about school reform." - Reply to this comment

There are no lies here; direct exerpts from factcheck.org are below. The fact is there was a working relationship between these two (Obama & Ayers). I guess if you support Obama you don''t care but if you aren''t sure or lean towards McCain, a relationship with a man you bombed several federal buildings might be enough to help you make up your mind.
It is true that he did not bring up his work with Ayers on a second project, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, where Obama was board chairman and Ayers was an early organizer, and where the two were together for half a dozen or so meetings.
It is true that recently released records show half a dozen or so more meetings between the two men than were previously known,
Ayers hosted a meet-and-greet coffee for Obama, who was running for state Senate and who lived three blocks away from him. Obama and Ayers also were on the board of an antipoverty charity, the Woods Fund of Chicago, where their service overlapped from 2000 to 2002. And Ayers contributed $200 to Obama''s campaign for the Illinois state Senate on March 2, 20
In addition, Obama told the Chicago Tribune in 1997 that a book Ayers wrote about the juvenile court system was "a searing and timely account."
Obama and Ayers acted as "partners" and together "poured more than $100 million into the hands of community organizers and education activists. - Reply to this comment
- Readers, I''d like to make a shining example out of whiner245a.
His illiterate capitalized ramblings are a hallmark trait of someone who falls victim to verified falsehoods. His utterly disingenuous statements are signs of bigotry and hatred towards people and democracy as a whole.
For the facts on the only connection the McCain campaign has ever tried to establish between Obama and a person of questionable merit (one who was *acquitted of all charges*, so he can still sue the McCain campaign for Slander), please visit:

- I actually recieved this on my answering machine today. Does the GOP actually believe we are stupid enough to believe this Bull?
Does anyone wonder why McCain is not talking about the differences between his plan and the Bush agenda?
Probably because there is no difference. - Reply to this comment
- If this Ayers issue was really factual and something the American people should be concerned about, the Clinton campaign would have made it a major issue months ago
Posted by MarinTX at 09:34 PM : Oct 16, 2008
Clinton did make it a big issue but the media just ignored it and stuffed it under the rug. The refuse to investigate this relationship for the facts. They did it for Obama against Clinton and we are seeing the same thing hear. I listened to the democratic primary debates. Hillary mentioned Ayers name more than once. - Reply to this comment
