- Couric: I''''''''m just going to ask you one more time - not to belabor the point. Specific examples in his 26 years of pushing for more regulation.
Palin: I''''''''ll try to find you some and I''''''''ll bring them to you.
She messed up right there. If she clams that John Wayne Mcsame is a "Reformer" then why does she have to "try to find you some". Remember that key word "Try" - Reply to this comment
- After some thought, I was having trouble thinking what I thouhgt was wrong with McCain''s presentation. It finally struck me that his constant smiling and informing us "he just doesn''t get it" started to bother me.
I think because I think Obama did get it. McCain''s foreign policy was little change from the current administration. His ideas basically had one core element, war. McCain doesn''t talk to you unless you already agree with him, there is no looking for other solutions, agree with him or he plans on going to war.
He constantly talked about winning. I wasn''t sure what that meant. His ideas on winning went back to Vietnam. Everything must be won. Yet today the world is more complex, everything cannot be winning, you are going to hold to your principles but must be will to compromise.
You must be willing to look at other avenues that won''t lead to war. Nothing McCain said indicated he could do this. He must always win, whether Vietnam or Iraq or any place else. He ignores some of the core problems of the world.
Obama appears willing to try to explore other ideas in solving problems bu is willing to have conflict as a last resort to protect the American interest. He remains cool in negotiations and doesn''t start with the pre-condition that his way must be expected.
I hope that others saw some of these same things. I think electing McCain will only lead to more conflicts for which he will need more wars. - Reply to this comment

- Mc Cain is a weak man. he is full of the bravado that has sunk this country the last 8 years. fake man. weak man. castrated man. just like bush. pathetic, outrageous liar that is representing the rich to get richer. how could anyone with an income less than 250,000 a year support McCain?

- bush had bankrupted us with the wrong war and the wrong approach to the economy. the reasons we are in this mess are obvious and clear. the solutions to the problems are complex. obama has a vastly superior intelligence and his commitment is to the people, not protecting the rich. McCain owns 7 houses folks. go figure.

- I really don''t understand how anyone can think that Obama would be better for the economy. Obama''s "ideas" are the antithesis of the capitalism that drove our great country to be the envy of the world. As an extreme socialist he would like to confiscate even more money from the "evil rich" and give to those who have either not tried or have made poor choices in their lives (like dropping out of high school or having a child knowing they can''t afford one). And does anyone truly believe that Obama now wants to CUT spending, when until now he has proposed $700 billion in new spending? What''s that phrase about "selling you the Brooklyn bridge?"
This man is an extreme socialist who stands for the opposite of everything that our Founding Fathers held dear. They must be spinning in their graves.

- This Presidential race has been electrifying. Senator Obama clearly won this first debate. My concern is a phyrric Democratic victory. The ongoing Philadelphia lawsuit (Berg vs Obama 08-cv-4083) questions Obama''s eligibility to become president. Why won''t Obama simply provide a certified vault copy of his original birth certificate? We''d all submit our birth certificates as a condition for employment. Obama should show the court this specific legal identification that will make Mr. Berg go away. Senator Obama should meet this challenge head on! Hiding behind a motion for dismissal is cowardly. IT IMPLIES GUILT. We want to be proud of our next president; not ashamed that we were victimized by another well-marketed confidence game.

- Obama''s negative messages and accusations are reaching the point of just getting old and annoying. People are not "stupid" and are seeing him for who he is. Nothing but words. He just couldn''t shut up last night. I don''t know if he was trying to convince us voters, or himself.

- "They said on some of the networks McCain won hands down! He got a 90% score and Obam 30%."
Uh, 90% and 30% do not equal 100%. So either you pulled that one out of your... well, you know... or you read/typed it incorrectly. And "some of the networks" would only be Fox. Which is like polling only Repubs to find out if they prefer McCain or Obama. Duh. You have to disregard any poll from Fox, which is why the pundits never mention it. In the same way, web polls on Drudge or HuffPo are seriously slanted toward their audience, as well. Look up and quote the more unbiased neutral polls if you want to sound credible. - Reply to this comment
- At this point in the election, with such stark differences between the two candidates and their respective parties, I honestly don''t understand how any voter could still be undecided. And so I wonder... when focus groups are being put together, are people claiming to be undecided, when, in fact, they really do have a candidate in mind? Because, if not, I don''t know that we can trust any kind of reaction or response from someone that is so utterly clueless as to be undecided still. Are they still wondering if the Earth is flat? Have they made up their minds about whether the moon is made of cheese? That an election would be hinging on the votes of these brain-cell challenged people is a scary thought.

apologies to jone775 (for my incorrect attribution)
Fact check: Look up the recent McCain/Palin rally where the campaign organizers not only took away signs that public individuals had made and brought to the rally -- the campaign passed out pro-M/P posters that they (the campaign organizers) had painted themselves to look "homemade."
Let''s see . . . where I come from that would be denial of free speech compounded with deception (an increasingly frequent strategy of the faltering M/P campaign). If you object to the former -- you have to be doubly disgusted by the latter. - Reply to this comment

- Bush, McCain can run. But they cant hide anymore.
What ever congress does to try and fix our stunning economic catastrophe needs to be done very carefully. Congress needs to take their time, and be sure of what they are doing. Whatever is done needs to be sharply focused at helping, and protecting the best interest of the ordinary Americans. In particular the vast American middle class. 700 billion dollars is a lot of the peoples money to spend to bail out a bunch of corrupt Bush loan sharks.
My fellow human beings, just as I warned you ahead of this catastrophic economic meltdown, I must now warn you that what is ahead has the potential to be even more catastrophic than what we are going through now. The worlds geopolitical landscape has been booby trapped by the Bush McCain administration and their republican allies in congress. These booby traps are poised to spring at any time.
Fortunately the Worlds Nations have been blessed with many excellent leaders (except the US) who have been careful, wise, strong, and self-restrained in dealing with the provocations, and antagonism''s of the Bush, McCain administration.
Barack Obama and the democrats are your best hope now. Tell your family, friends, and everyone you know to support them as best you can, and vote for them like your life, and the lives of your loved ones depends on it. Because it does. You will not survive 4 more years of Bush McCain.

- McCain didn''t inspire much confidence to me with his social skills much less Foreign Affairs.
We all know he can''t stand Obama. However, if he doesn''t even have the courtesy/guts to give his "American" challenger his face when addresing him, what makes us think he will be any different when speaking with a Foreign leader or someone from the other side of the isle...especially one he doesn''t like.
Think he''ll promote bipartisan support if he''s ever in office...don''t think so!
Also, when is his party ever going to stop using military service members as a political shield to inspire public trust.
I seriously doubt that any candidate Democrat or Repulican would do anything that would severely impair our military members in harms way.
What McCain doesn''t tell the public is the bills his party has submitted in the past have had hidden agendas, with support for our troops on the tail end in an attempt to force conrgress members to pass or else.
Sadly, when the rest of congress don''t see things their way and oppose their hidden agendas, they cry foul. Now that''s a real shame. - Reply to this comment
- The contrasts between both candidates could not have been clearer last night. McCain wants a spending freeze (this is a new notion in McCain''s position on budgetary policy) across the board, note, EXCEPT in the military, and in veteran benefits. Veteran benefits are without doubt necessary, but his statement certainly brings to question, why do other areas of the military require investment? Are we preparing for another war in the midst of our economic recovery. Obama too believes in cutting spending, and has even mentioned that he would have to phase out some of his more ambitious programs as a result of the bailout. To me, it is clear that McCain''s focus is in forcefully asserting American supremacy globally, while Obama is focused on domestic recovery. I think we just have to decide which is more important to us at this point.

- Who won the debate is such a lame question. I think the only way one of the candidates could have been declared a winner if the other had made a serious mistake. That cannot happen because all major US presidential candidates are very well trained for TV appearances.
So the voters have to go beyond the personality and rhetoric. Do you really believe that tax cuts are the solution to our malaise? 24 of the last 32 years a republican has been in the whitehouse. If the taxes could be cut any further, they would have been cut already. McCain is just repeating the rhetoric that is handlers are telling him to repeat.
We need a person who can energize our inner city neighborhoods, we need a person who can minimize the resources that we are wasting on the war, we need a president who can reduce the probability that a new enemy of America is created. We need a president who can energize all of us to join the army if there is a true threat to our security.
Now figure out who do we need. It does not matter who won or lost a 15 second sound bite.

- Redfred08, yes I perfer old and wise as well. But, McCain is an old fool which he made apparent in his war mongering talk during the debate. The man is a threat to the world.

- Anyone that wants to believe that McCain won that debate is in deninal and deluding themselves. First, the man stated numerous lies and tried to make points with lies. Something he and Palin are constantly doing. Second, in the first part of debate, he came across as lost. In the second part, he came across as a war monger and a man that refuses to accept the reality of the situation in the Middle East--much like his supporters.
