- On June 23, 2008 McCain admitted that offshore drilling would have no immediate effect and that the only benefit would be "psychological" -- in other words, it would do nothing but con people into thinking their lives were better, as if they have that luxury:
"I don''t see an immediate relief, but I do see that exploitation of existing reserves that may exist -- and in view of many experts that do exist off our coasts -- is also a way that we need to provide relief. Even though it may take some years, the fact that we are exploiting those reserves would have psychological impact that I think is beneficial."

Everything I''ve read says there would be no actual oil produced for as many as 20-30 years. Here''s one that says there would be none for 10-12 years:

So, McCain''s offshore drilling is just a campaign gimmick (+ probably a sop for the oil companies), insulting the voters and not having their best interests in mind.
Obama has the more rigorous alternative energy plan -- he''s the tree-hugging Democrat after all, and McCain is just one of the slightly more pro-environment among the Republicans who have always been anti-environment, who have always been dragging their feet on anything that could hurt the oil companies.
So, McCain has nothing to offer on this issue, except manipulations (of the public, of the truth). - Reply to this comment
- 143 days experience.
No management experience.
No military experience.
No executive experience.
No private sector experience.
No budgetary experience.
What kind of resume does Obama have when you get right down to it.
He''s fit for govt. work but little practical experience of any kind. - Reply to this comment
- And this was the best the Republicans could do with their lineup for nominee? Sad.

- FOURTH UPDATE: CBS News chief political consultant Marc Ambinder reports that former McCain strategist John Weaver has called the spot "childish."
"John''s been a celebrity ever since he was shot down," Weaver said.
He added: "There is legitimate mockery of a political campaign now, and it isn''t at Obama''s. For McCain''s sake, this tomfoolery needs to stop." - Reply to this comment
- This this is the kind of dishonest remarks people make when they can''''t address the question of Obama''''s lack of experience. McCain as you well know (I''''m assuming you read the news) was against some of the the PROVISIONS of bills and not against the essence of bill itself. The Dems wanted to pork barrel the bill just like they do everything else. Obama saw it as a way to make it politically advantgeous rather than what was for the good of the GIs AND the country.

**************************************** That was not a dishonest comment. McCain couldn''t be bothered to show up to vote because he is a coward now.
He said on the Senate floor that he was against the bill because it was to generous to troops who were coming back from Iraq and had only been only once or twice.
McCain is a veteran, but he has repeatedly voted against benefits for todays veterans.
McCains oversized ego cannot allow him to see beyond his own pinnochio nose. - Reply to this comment
- OMG....McCain thinks that Britney and Paris Hilton are the two biggest celebreties in the world.
Now that is downright frightening! - Reply to this comment

Pork barrel or not, you gotta provide for the troops.
If you want to feed your kids but you have to give a homeless man $5 as well, what are you going to do? - Reply to this comment
- That Ad is silly beyond belief and more fitting to a bunch of 5 year olds.
I expected more of McCain, but either he is not all there or his first wife had it about right when she said, he is in his 40''s but wants to be in his 20''s when he wanted out of the marriage. Only now he is in his 70''s and acts like a 5 year old. - Reply to this comment
- nd this is what Obama had to say about McCain today in Missouri--
"It''s true that change is hard, change isn''''t easy," Obama said. "Nobody here thinks that Bush or McCain has a real answer for the challenges we face so what they''''re going to try to do is make you scared about me."
He could have compared McCain to Sponge Bob, but he''''s above all that.
Oh no..his remark was much more incedious....he ever so politely lumps Bush with McCain even though Bush is not running for President (he could have left Bush''s name out of the sentence). Let''s so sweetly refer to McCain as McSame as people like you call him without actually SAYING it. How very civilized of him and naive of you. - Reply to this comment
