- The thing about competition for the long haul is that every word is taken as literal, there is no reading between the lines, and there is assumptions made and rumours spread based on things people want to hear, not what is meant. YOU have to careful what you hear and what you read- If you are the type that takes things at ''face value'' than you will have real problems. McCain is correct, but you have to understand the depth of his mind, and the experiance behind it. Obama is NOT experianced, so it is as if he keeps touching the hot stove and finding it hot, when he should have learned more- for this is the BIG LEAGUE- He will LOSE in a very big, big way.

- Why does McCain need Joe Lieberman to tell us what he meant? If McCain had any sense, he''d tell that turncoat to stay the hell away. Its not faring well for him in either camp. In any case, ''not too important'' is going to stick with me for a long time -- probably until November...

- What is McCain trying to say? That he doesn''t want to keep troops in Iraq?
McCain has made no bones about the fact that he wants a permanent presence in Iraq. Which is the problem. Because he keeps saying what he wants to do over and over again.
Let''s recap: McCain said his "100 year" comment was taken out of context - he meant 100 year occupation without casualties. So will the troops leave in a McCain Presidency?
Well, McCain clarified when the war would end and the occupation could begin in his 2013 ad. So even if you ignore the occupation, the "when" is, according to McCain''s own clarification, after a theoretical McCain first term.
So has McCain ever, ever said anything but that troops would remain in Iraq if he were President? Never. He''s been very clear about his position, which is Kinsley''s definition of a "gaffe" - when a politician accidentally says the truth. - Reply to this comment

You know, for once I have nothing to add.

- McCain, as he said, clearly didn''t say it was important "if" the troops, but "when" -- 2113.

- when they are deployed will always be important to the soldiers and their families and loved ones, and the fact that McCain clearly does not understand that, and has to once again have Sen. Lieberman ''explain'' his comments or correct his comments really underscores the lack of true leadership ability of McCain.
