CBS' Kathy Frankovic: Partisan Divide Has Risen Sharply
- Looks like the terrorists (politicians) won.
We are democrats or republicans first...Americans second.
Divide and then conquer the individual. - Reply to this comment
- We are divorced from each other as Americans, Democrats and Republicans, because we hate each other so.

Must not have read this...
[Hmmm When I think of Bill Clinton I think of nuclear secrets sold to China for campaign contributions, Al Gores "No controlling legal authority" for raising money through the White House, Johnny Chang fleeing to China rather than discuss fund-raising for Clinton. Bill Clinton is a chameleon who was forced to the center by a GOP congress not by his political nature. To mention Bill and Monica is the lame liberal counterargument. Clinton was guilty (rhetorically) of many more things than a fling in the White House. But we can argue that on another day. ]

- Here's my impression of just about every neocon nutjob Limbaugh lemming when confronted with the enormous intelligence failures, breaches of law, and total incompetency of the last six republican dominated years:
"But Clinton and Monica ...."

Can you tell me how the economy is doing right now? How about the job and stock markets? Just curious. - Reply to this comment
- I would take any party before the liberal leftist dominated Democratic party and I have almost as much contempt for the fascist dominated Republican party as well

A very good post. Although you left out one thing. War AND free market economy is their answer to everything.
Free market economy being code for "let our huge corporate benefactors do whatever they want to do." - Reply to this comment
- I live in a Republican-free environment. I won't listen to any Republican on TV - why should I, they are incapable of telling the truth, and what they believe is complete ***. They attribute the workings of the periodic table to God - how absurd. Is there a God on Mars ? It's like having Neanderthals living among us, very very dangerous Neanderthals. War is their answer to everything. Don't get me wrong, the Democratic Party is a herd of cats, but at least they believe in evolution and science, from which truth, justice and progress flow. The Republicans won't even inspect our food. They won't give out condoms in the third world. Neanderthals, all of them.

- "It's been my observation that most Americans are conservative by nature, and a Democrat candidate, especially a liberal Democrat, has to pretend they are a conservative to get elected."
But that's exactly the myth, which was well described in a recent book about how the Republican propaganda machine tries to twist words in order to demonize their enemies. Americans are not conservative in their social views, the opinion polls have shown this over and over again since the '70's as I mentioned, but even the Clintonite Democrats were so hoodwinked by the wordplay that Bill's handlers claimed that the American public was "conservative". It's simply, objectively, not true. The politics of the wider public is somewhat left-of-center and, as the Bush years drag on, are more willing than ever to call themselves "liberals" than "conservatives"... - Reply to this comment

Our large corporations also engage in imperialism, by setting up factories in other countries to avoid environmental laws and obtain cheap labor and raw materials. By definition, this is imperialist behavior. The U.S. is guilty by association, as we allow these corporations to engage in this practice.- Reply to this comment

Imperialism is a policy of systematic domination and exploitation of a country by another country or an empire.
The United States currently does that militarily (think Iraq & oil), economically (World Bank and economic aid packages, or withholding of economic aid), politically (interference in other countries elections and political affairs). We also have a long sordid history of this type of behavior....
Many academics classify the U.S. as an empire, but imperialist power is also pretty accurate... - Reply to this comment
jimfinster, how do you define what imperialist is? Was the Soviet Union imperialist? Is China?

ainttaken,
Don't you remember how after Clinton was elected, the Dems owned the White House and both houses of congress, and the FIRST thing he does out of the gate is *** in the military, followed closely by his wife's attempted takeover of our healthcare system?
That kind of liberal behavior led to the historic landslide upset of Republicans taking over both houses for the first time in over 40 FREAKIN' YEARS!!
From that point on, Slick Willy (like Monica) had to swallow whatever Congress gave him.
Thus, it appears he was this mainstream President, but he had no choice if he wanted to get anything done.
Also, don't forget that Clinton issued more Executive Orders than any president in history, probably to satiate his desire to be a dicktator. He also had more millioniares on his cabinet than Reagan did.

We are an imperial country. We may not have colonies, but our military outposts and soldiers are all over the world. - Reply to this comment
clestes, what are you saying? The US is no imperialist country like Spain, England, France, etc. America doesn't have colonies. America has not taken other countries' gold or wealth.
And we've only asked for enough land from other countries to bury our dead on.- Reply to this comment
- History has shown over and over that once a country starts to think it is the greatest, it immediately starts on a policy of forcing itself on other countries that have natural resources it desires.
For example, look at Spain and Portugal. They ruled Europe in the 14 and 1500's and sailed to the new world to steal its gold, jewels and force its people into slavery. The result, the Inca, Aztec populations were wiped out and their culture destroyed.
Later, England ruled Europe and they forced themselves on the colonies and stole whatever wealth American had and taxed its people until we rebelled.
Now, history is repeating itself again. For the last 50 years, American is thinking itself mightier than all other countries and is forcing itself on the middle east to steal its oil amoung other reasons.
Spain fell, England fell and American will fall too. We won't even stay the super power we are now for another 20 years. Then it will be China's turn or India's.
The shortest reign of a super power in history. - Reply to this comment
- Partisan polarity is a symptom of the growing statist attitude in America. People want to use government power to force their neighbors to do what they think is right. The result is stronger and stronger opinions about whether the governors are doing a good job of coercing us.
If the government is trying to force us to do what one group likes, they strongly support it. The group that is not getting its way is strongly opposed. In the end, everyone seems to agree that using the government force on their neighbors is okay.
Tragically, that is fascism. It would be so much better for all of us if we left each other alone. No one would care or need to care about our government leaders if they had almost no power (and no money) to oppress us. What made America great was the freedom to do as you please without government regulation. Americans have forgotten that and now prefer the comforts of bondage. - Reply to this comment
