Passenger Asks For Apology After Being Required To Remove Body Jewelry With Aid Of Pliers

I don''t suppose it occurred to this person that she could have refused the inspection and walked away.

Even then she could have walked to another line and probably gotten through.

Not withstanding that idea, it would appear our self appointed nipple ring expert, lawyer Gloria Allred, didn''t take into account (nor did CBS in its ''news'' article - like this is ''news'') that the reason the nipple rings were being asked to be removed was for the purpose of checking for other embedded metal parts. Wands detect metal. I may be wrong, but I''m not sure they are detecting the quantity of metal. Anyone got a source ?

I admit, it was excessive, but this whole piece seems a bit excessive. I mean, like someone with a nipple ring is REALLY that sensitive about pain to start with. What did she do to get them on, go under general anesthesia ?

CBS, quit trying to sensationalize security, and get on with real news.

Why would an alleged 37 year old ADULT want to wear a nipple ring? Secondly, knowing that you are going to be screened at security before catching your flight and that a nipple ring is made of METAL and going to be detected, why would you wear it? If anyone is owed an appology, it is the security staff for having to put up with jerks like this. Isn''t it amazing that there is always some publicity seeking lowlife lawyer available to help the scales of justice be balanced and get their hands on a big cash payout and lots of tv and press exposure.

("You''''re dumb too!
People with surgical metal inside them have documentation that verified....." Posted by DSR57 at 04:04 AM : Mar 28, 2008)

My point was, they said she couldn''t board the plane unless the dectector cleared her, that she must remove her jewelry. Her jewelry could be verified by site, yet it still had to be removed. I made the comparison because it''s beyond ridiculous. I wonder if an underwire bra, zippers in jeans and other such things cause a problem, and if not, why?

"if i was stupid enough to pierce an area of my body i might be embarrassed to have found out, then i would not go to an airport where it is well known that they will use a metal detector which the piercing would set off. i would either take out the piercing beforehand, or drive. Or as this idiot, suffer the consequences"

But apparently you are stupid enough to condone the deliberate humiliation of another person because they choose a form of personal ornamentation which you dislike. I think body-piercing is self-mutilation and may also be a health hazard, but I would never condone this kind of harassment of another person. What a person chooses to do their own bodies is personal choice. Public harassment and abuse of power, no matter how trivial, is a tyranny which, if ignored, will inevitably lead to larger tyrannies.

This is just craziness. Pretty soon the TSA is going to be doing strip searches on everyone that wants to board a plane. Hell, someone could be hiding a bomb in their a n a l cavity, so everyone is subject to a cavity search as well. Can''t be to careful, terrorists are everywhere, especially women with nipple rings!
Good God, Americans are becoming mindless drones that just follow whatever the government says.
"Well, Bubba, it''s gotta be right, them thar people we done elected told us so."

Its the perfect cover......woman gets male pilots to stare at her boobs, then slashed their throats with razor sharp nipples and crashes the plane. Where would we be without the TSA on this one.....

"The last time that I checked a nipple was not a dangerous weapon."

Unless your name is Janet Jackson and you reveal it at the Superbowl.

This is one on of those "from the rediculous to the sublime" situations.

While the TSA morons are knit-picking over nipple rings, watches and shoelaces, what else of real importance is getting through?

They will never be able to stop someone who is really armed and who really wants to get on that plane. For example, your thumb is a deadly weapon if you know how to use it.

Or, what if you simply steal a TSA uniform?

Airlines treat us like packages at best and sometimes like inmates in a maximum security prison. The uncalled for rudeness of some employees has no relationship to logic, necessity or customer service.

It is the national atmosphere in which respect for individual dignity is trumped by sadistic tendencies on the part of those with any bit of power. This is usually done in the name security. Using the word "security" gives license to do anything, no matter how useless, apparently.

My experience - If you ask to go to the bathroom when stranded on the tarmac for 4 hours, you are obviously with Al Quaeda and you better shut up or you will be arrested.
