%u201CA well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed%u201D

The 2nd amendment to the constitution of the United States, possibly the clearest phrased amendment of all, separates the first part from the last part with a comma, clearly distinguishing a difference between the two parts.

The first part:
A WELL-REGULATED militia clearly means the militia (national guard- army or whatever), must be kept under control (regulated) to prevent military domination of any kind as indicated by the following words, %u201Cbeing necessary to the security of a FREE state.
.
The second part:
%u201CThe RIGHT of the PEOPLE to KEEP and BEAR arms shall not be INFRINGED.%u201D

INFRINGED: now that is the key word: The definition of infringement: An encroachment or trespass on a right or privilege.

The use of the words shall not be INFRINGED, clearly separates the right of the people, from the mentioned, well-regulated militia.

The militia/national guard is made up of the general public, and sometimes on a moments notice, thereby making it very important, even necessary, for the public at large to be familiar with the use and care of arms.

This was especially true in the 18th century.

Do we need some restrictions/infringements to help control the misuse of arms in the 21st century? Of course, but it can only be done, legally, through the amendment process.

The authorities can't enforce the gun laws they have, what would passing some more laws do?
If congress would actually work the way they should, we would have 1/4 the laws passed and the ability to enforce the ones we already have on the books.

When my state passed a concealed weapons law, rape against women dropped by over 50 percent within the first year. KIND OF HARD to rape a woman if there's a gun in her purse.

Also, my GUN SAVED MY LIFE once when two burglars broke into my home one night. They didn't make it.

You can't stop crime by disarming potential victims,
and no amount of whiny liberal rhetoric will ever change my mind.

His magazine size limits, assault weapons ban and Brady Bill were of little use....as was 99% of the rest of his so called presidency.

Got to hand it to him though.....he did a little "shooting" of his own, eh huskerdoo! :)

Let's say there was a database for law enforcement which showed that this kid had stalking complaints against him, was on anti-depressants and in counseling.

Let's say rather than the gun shop checking a database for an arrest record the local police accessed for this other information as well. Then the police would have to decide whether to issue him a gun permit and the law prevented someone in counseling and on anti-depressants from getting one. Let's say the gun dealer couldn't sell without the police permit.

How would this kid have gotten the guns? How would law abiding citizens' gun rights be infringed upon?

It wouldn't stop all gun crimes. It would stop a lot.

They are in fact far less worried about fighting an abusive government than helping one, of their ilk, to weed out non-believers and other such undesirables.
