- Did you know John McCain is so dumb that he finished at the bottom of his class at Navy and only graduated because his daddy and grandaddy were admirals.
Sounds familiar. Oh like the guy in the white house now who had his daddy get him on the cheer leading squad at Yale.

Yes and no surprise. The Republican party values conformity as directed from above rather than an intelligent debate to reach the best consensus. They attract a vocal following from the lowest common denominator. - Reply to this comment
- However, the NRA is full of whack jobs who think that any random person should be allowed the right to carry around assault rifles. Give me a break.
They act like they think they live in revolutionary war times.

You are correct about the NRA. But you can''t blame them. If the Second Amendment makes gun ownership constitutionally protected, it must include just about any variety of military arsenal under the sweep of this protection. The Constitution does not mention ''guns'' per se but the ''right to bear arms.'' - Reply to this comment

- The Supreme Court has already made its decision abount owning guns. Obama really cannot do a thing about it. RESPONSIBLE gun ownership is really the issue not the right to own a weapon. Why doesn''''t the NRA give this money where it will do good, like support for our Soldiers and their families, or into developement of alternative fuel sources since the price of gas has so many Americans strapped and the price of gas is raising the price of all other commodities. How many elderly will freeze to death this winter because they will not be able to afford heat for their homes? These are the real issues, not gun ownership. Another question, why does any citizen have the need to own an ak47 or any other weapon like this? I own three handguns,I have a liscense for each of them, they are safely locked up and kept where I know they are. I really don''''t see any of this as an issue. I am also a Democrat, who will vote for Obama.

- Governors in some coastal states promised to block attempts to tap offshore petroleum reserves, citing concerns about the environment and tourism. Others agreed with President Bush`s call to lift a 27-year-old federal ban on offshore drilling but said states should decide whether to allow it.
Bush on Wednesday joined Republican presidential candidate John McCain in calling for the lifting of a prohibition on drilling along the East and West coasts and in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. As the battle to lift the moratorium began to play out in Washington, states debated their stance.
Note: "As Governor of California, I will do everything in my power to fight the federal government on this issue and prevent any new offshore drilling," Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a McCain supporter, said Wednesday.

Sierra Club lands program director Athan Manuel told a House committee Wednesday that drilling has been unsuccessful in driving costs down.
"The disappointing part about some of the energy policies being promoted (is) that it calls for more drilling when drilling really is the problem.
And all we`ve got to show for pretty aggressive (domestic) drilling for the last 35 years is, again, $4 for a gallon of gas," Manuel said, adding ...
"since the first Arab oil shock in the 1970s, the U.S. has produced almost 90 billion barrels of oil since then, so we`ve tried drilling our way out of the problem and it just hasn`t worked."
Environment Florida spokeswoman Holly Binns told the Media General news group that offshore drilling has NO IMMEDIATE IMPACT ON PRICES.
"It would take anywhere from 7-10 years to bring those resources to shore to have any measurable impact on supply, Binns said, advocating renewable energy sources.
Democrats held their own series of events on Capitol Hill Wednesday to focus attention on global warming and energy independence, but drilling is not on the agenda.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said Tuesday ongoing calls for more drilling "is the Johnny One-Note of the Republican Party." - Reply to this comment

- It is unfortunate that the NRA feels they need to spend that much money defending a constitutional right. Funds would be better served in youth educational programs and other related activities that they have done for years.
I imagine that if the first amendment were under attack the associated press would be spending as much or more.
It''s unfortunate that the collective voting public doesn''t have a group to fight for their rights as a whole. Wait, that would be congress. And that would be whom the group would be defending their rights against. Something is wrong here. - Reply to this comment
- Just look at the Great Condition, George Bush & D!ck Cheney, has left Our Great & Prosperous Nation.

No Big Deal !!
Never mind the Direct Saudi Arabian & United Arab Emirates (911 Connection) to Piloting the Planes.

- Oil is making millionaires in North Dakota . State and industry officials say North Dakota is on pace to set a state oil-production record this year.
When oilmen wanted to drill there last year, Stohler, 83, doubted oil would be found two miles underground on his property. He even joked about it
In less than a year, Stohler and his wife, Lorene, 82, have become millionaires from the production of one well on their land near Dunn Center, a mile or so from the sod home where Oscar grew up. A second well has begun producing on their property and another is being drilled
all aimed at the Bakken shale formation, a rich deposit that the U.S. Geological Survey calls the largest continuous oil accumulation it has ever assessed.
OBAMA FIX FOR HIGH GAS PRICES:
1. NO deep sea drilling
2. No reduction in the federal gas tax (20 cents per gallon)
3. No Arctic drilling
4. No Rocky Mountain drilling
Analyst estimate that the proven reserves in the Rocky Mountains, Deep Sea US Territory, North Dakota and Alaska are GREATER than ALL MUSLIM COUNTRIES COMBINED!!
OBAMA solution?? Ala Akbar - NO drilling! - Reply to this comment
- As a Constitutional scholar and as a president he will swear to uphold the Constitution. Not like the looney bird in the white house now. The NRA can waste their money but the fact of the matter is that both Obama and McCain agreed with the Supreme Court''s decision on the 2nd amendment.

- When your candidate is so immature and incompetent that that his actions become so convoluted that he raises yourself up for ridicule, exactly whose fault is that?
Obama has supported gun bans in Chicago and DC...
Obama puts it in his own handwriting in a phamphlet survey and sends it in...
Obama gets criticized for his position...and lies and says he never did such a thing! That his staff sent in the phamplet with his own handwriting on it...he gets confronted about this on national tv in a debate, lies about it again...
He still supports gun bans in Chicago and DC...
He still supports that gun bans should be the right of communities...
Then his namby pamby *** comes out after the SC ruling and gives the goofiest support of it I''ve ever seen!
The SC ruling was clear...YOU CANNOT BAN GUNS!!! But it contains language the indicates licensing and safety issues can certainly be addressed.
Obama comes out with some ******* mush mouth statement that makes it appear he supports their decision!
Now how in the hell can this man have any credibility at all? - Reply to this comment
- Oh please, the NRA is interested in one thing, which is avoiding paying taxes. That is why they advocate for the party that looks out for the wealthy at the expense of the other 98% of AMericans.
Most Democrats don''t care if people own guns or not and those laws will never change. (some of us do wonder why people are so insistant on the right to own AK-47''s though).
But the NRA is just one more establishment that is able to get the ''low information'' voters worked up into a lather, in order to get them to vote for the Republicons and against their own economical interests. - Reply to this comment

Armydog, thanks for your service! And that''s an awesome post - that''s why I feel like Dem vets have experiences that uniquely qualify them to be the voice of the left when it comes to guns, national security, etc. Like your position sounds like the view that the vast majority of us embrace in this country, particularly in the West coast mountain regions where they to vote for Dems who sport buzz cuts and combat boots and who go hunting on weekends . . . - Reply to this comment
