Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., was born in 1936 on the shores of Lake Victoria in Nyangoma-Kogelo, Siaya District, Kenya. His father, Hussein Onyango Obama (c. 1895-1979, buried at Alego)[1], belonged to the Luo tribe and was born Onyango, son of Obama (buried at Kendu Bay, Kenya) and wife Nyaoke, in one of their villages. Before working as a cook for missionaries in Nairobi, Onyango had travelled widely, enlisting with the name Onyango Obama in the British colonial forces during World War I and visiting Europe, India, and Zanzibar, where he converted from Christianity to Islam and added Hussein to his name.

- Truthmatterz: yes! thank you for your insight. absolutely, Christianity has one of the bloodiest histories in the religious ward. Seems to me that in the name of religion, any atrocity can be justified. I will say that those who truly live their religion, I have great respect for. But it is silly for any Christian to point fingers at a Muslim because of the extremists out there. Right back at the Christians! And I thank my parents for forcing catholicism on me so that I truly saw the judgmental, exclusive attitude toward any one different from them, and now consider myself a recovering catholic.

- I agree that these folks should be invited back to a rally, with front row (back row) seats in the camera''s eye. I''m disappointed, we are a nation, despite the redneck jerks out there, who embrace all cultures and remember that each of us came from elsewhere too. Knowledge is great, isn''t it? I realize this didn''t come directly from Barack, but those volunteers clearly need some cultural relativity training, some education would be helpful.

- Patriot12436, I seriously doubt your knowledge of Islam exceeds mine, as I am a student of Islam and Middle East studies for 27 years.
If you really want to understand Islam, you need to stop assuming that the Muslims you meet in your daily life actually speak for the same cult that has committed atrocities for the last few decades, and instead recognize that Islam is little more than a massive cult of death, intent on destroying the Western World, no matter how long it takes. If you do not know this by now, you are truly lost.

The magnitude of difference between the two candidates running in our presidential election could not be more stark! After reading the statements of both Obama and McCain regarding the horrible Supreme Court 5-4 decision to allow Gitmo detainees the right to be tried in civilian courts, we can clearly see what a flawed, unfortunate, and terrible direction Obama would take this country if [God forbid!!]elected in November.
