Politico: Former President's Return To Partisan Politics Causes Public Perception To Suffer
- What is important is that we find out why Clinton backed NAFTA and then bought shares in Indian outsourcing companies that profited from Americans losing jobs. The Clintons have reaped significant financial rewards from their investments in India, both in their personal finances and Hillary''s campaign fundraising. Hillary Clinton, is the founder and co-chair of the Senate India Caucus, and often draws criticism for her vocal support of Indian business and unwillingness to protect American jobs. We get all this rubbish coverage about Canadians trying to sabotage our election, why don''t we get coverage about Clinton''s involvement with Indian outsourcing. Is the press asleep or just biased?

For the last time...I did not right that post. I know that Clinton was impeached. That was lvdragonlady and jh6379.
They were the one who didn''t have their facts straight.
Gees...I was the one trying to point that out. Please read the whole post for goodness sakes. I''ll take the hit when it''s me, but not when it''s not.

In Ohio, Nafta has become the ultimate symbol of antiglobalization sentiment and is a constant source of contention between the two candidates. The agreement went into effect under President Bill Clinton in 1994 and created what remains the largest trade bloc in the world based on the combined gross domestic product of its member nations: the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Sen. Obama has consistently criticized Sen. Clinton for supporting Nafta during her husband''s administration. "The fact is, she was saying great things about Nafta until she started running for president,"
But the towns along the Texas-Mexico border have a very different impression of the trade agreement. In the past decade, Laredo has gone from an impoverished backwater to one of the nation''s largest inland ports. Its population has grown from 72,000 in the early 1990s to 250,000 in 2006. Sen. Clinton pointed to the Nafta paradox after an event focused on poverty in Hanging Rock, Ohio. "I''m well aware that many parts of our country have different views about trade. I was in Laredo as I said last week, and it has greatly benefited from trade," she told reporters. "We need to maintain the positive aspects (of Nafta) but get very specific on what we are going to do to fix it."...
Some places it has helped; others, it has hurt.- Reply to this comment
- Sorry, guys. Clinton and Andrew Johnson were each impeached. In the Senate trial, neither was convicted and forced to resign.

I''''''''m not one of the rabid anti-Clinton flamers this site seems to attract, but dude you need to get your facts straight. Bill Clinton WAS impeached by the House of Representatives. The result of the trial of impeachment was an aquittal. He was the second President to be impeached, after Andrew Johnson in 1866.

Hey bgddy58....
I do have my facts straight. I did not post that. I cut and pasted what jh6379 and lvdragonlady were posting.
I think they were a little mixed up on the facts not me. Put my cut/paste was a little sloppy so I can see where might get that.
No harm though...I''''m tough enough to take criticism.

- Aha, those tax cuts help Warren Buffet and the rich. The economy is trashed, the dollar has sank lower than the Canadian and EU..

Zoe look a the post by aj marine. I guess it was everybody not the rich that benefitted from the tax break. Maybe you should show some objectivity not just vent your spleen - Reply to this comment
- "Wild Bill" however, was no saint and it''''s not his "flings" we are talking about. I still say that Clinton should have scrapped NAFTA instead of ramming it down our throats. Everybody may have thought he was nuts, but Ross Perot was dead on when he warned us about what NAFTA was going to do to us, but naturally, we didn''''t listen!
Posted by walt1944 at 06:42 PM : Mar 17, 2008
Wasn''t that Perot''s "Listen for the sucking sound from jobs going south" statement that everybody at the time ripped & dismissed him for, including both of the other canidates that were running. Daffy old guy turned out to be quite the prophet. But of course the US has benefited from NAFTA in that.............What was in it for the US again????
