Politico: Americans' Feelings On War In Iraq Likely To Shape Presidential Race
- Here''s what you should do: You should tax those companies that move overseas for that cheap unregulated labor thats below american standards enough that it no longer becomes a competitive issue that these companies should pack up and leave. Because they''re already established there.. in these local towns. And that cost of moving becomes the issue.

- The Department of Defense has published Bush"s military records.
It does contain a lot of s*uck-up comments by the guys who helped Bush get into the Tang.
BUT IT ALSO CONTAINS HIS SCORE ON THE PILOT APTITUDE TEST. (Some flunkie forgot to blank it out)
Scroll down in the following PDF and look carefully. There"s the box:
Pilot
25
(The average score was 70)

He was in the TANG at a time when it had a huge waiting list, and he got in with minimal qualifications but a well connected father.
If it was that easy to join the air wing of the Texas National Guard during the bloodiest year of the war, that Vietnam Memorial Wall would have about 20 names on it.

- What is "failure" by your estimation? Posted by sigotratando
------------------------
Failure is all in perception in many ways. To leave the countless numbers of Iraqis that are committed to democracy principles would be one of the benchmarks of failure. I agree that we should have never gone into this, but we have to pursue a negotiable compromise that creates favorable conditions for the Iraqi government and people. I have personally served in Iraq and saw the numerous successes that the Coalition has made in that country. I have also worked with Iraqis and understand the individual committment and sacrifice they have sustained. Fully understand that with the US economic conditions, we need to start looking at a withdrawl plan that can sustain our promised committment to both the Iraqi government and people. That is the fine line that is frustrating. I am in no way a Bush administration fan, but I honestly believe all this rhetoric hating is a waste of time. - Reply to this comment
- Obama has said he will end this war, so all the support for it won''t matter. Wonder who really "supports" this war--oh yeah, HALLIBURTON, etc. Obama will steamroll halliburton and all the other "supporters" of this war.

He was a Air Force NG fighter pilot so you look under Marines.
That''s logical for a person under the influence of smear. - Reply to this comment
- You"re damned right Bush is stupid.
Shame on millions of voters like you, who voted for him because you liked his Texas drawl.
What do you call any American, much less a "President," who gets all tongue-tied trying to say "State of the Union" ?
I call him an IDIOT:

I have you pegged perfectly. You are an ASSUMER. You assume to satisfy your PRESUMPTIONS and ASSUMPTIONS that are based on passion rather than truth hunger.
I voted for Kerry so your gut feeling betrayed you.

- The American people (except you traitor failure types) want to see our troops succeed and do not believe that a surrender is in the best interest of this nation. But I am quite sure you will continue your traitor failure type rhetoric... Do not deny the proud accomplishments that our Soldiers, Marines, Airmen and Sailors have completed and will continue to pursue...

It is not logical to say that winding down our presence in Iraq is ''surrender'', since no one wants a protracted, never-ending engagement unless war/conflict is an end in itself. My take on the poll data is that people do support the troops & what now must be the measure of success, but that does not mean they "support" the war. I, for one, do not agree with this war, but I certainly support the troops & am proud of their accomplishments, however misguided the reason for being there.
"Failure" now is a pretty relative term considering that the measure of success has had to change by virtue of finding the original reasons for being there were non-existent. One measure is getting the country solidly on its feet, but the measure of solidity seems pretty arbitrary. And it is equally arbitrary, & particularly horrifying, that someone would apply the term "traitor" to another person who disagrees with him.
What is "failure" by your estimation? - Reply to this comment

If you"re going to tell lies, don"t tell clumsy ones.
You couldn"t avoid the draft in those days by "fleeing to England."
England did not offer shelter to draft resisters.
Canada did. And Canada was a lot closer.
Clinton went to England because that was the only place to pursue a Rhodes Scholarship. - Reply to this comment

Chief, you need to read the post I was responding to which claims we need to talk to those who have served. I copied your excellent post in response and called the poster a loser. Thank you for your service.

My apologies for the misunderstanding. and thanks.
I know there are different opinions about the war and I accept each persons point of view. My intention was to share information that in my opinion is not reported about. Since I learned of my assignment to USACE, I have spent a lot of time learning about their mission (all open source info), and the more I read the more I came to appreciate the chance I have to go and doe something worth while. When the ACE came to Iraq in 2004, roughly 200 projects had been completed. Today, almost 4000 have been completed. And one of the biggest differences is Iraqis are being employed in large numbers to do the work. This includes Engineers, skilled and unskilled labor. If you have a meaningful job, your going to be less likely to be up to no good. And I think that last part is true the world over. Additionaly, a big part of USACE''s job is to train Iraqi builders and Engineers to be self sufficent. Tehy have been learning to build better, QA work and maintain what is being built. Check out the USACE website if you get a chance. - Reply to this comment
