GretaGreen,

I'm afraid I don't see your reasoning behind your statement that crime and illegal immigration not being a part of one another. By it's very definition, "illegal" immigration is just that, a crime.

Notwithstanding, I agree with you that we, as a nation, should find a way for those that want to immigrate here to do so legally and in a manner that is fair and equitable.

"No one ever complains about Chinese or Polish or Russian illegals." --teeus

Oh, I suppose they might if there were millions of them in the country.

But back to intelligent arguments--The U.S. took 2/3 of Mexico by force in the Mexican-American war in 1848. At least the Mexicans are taking their country back peacefully now.

teeus....

You are wrong about the deportation of all illegals. It not only is possible, it should be done now. The open border people throw out the phrase, "it's not feasible" as though there were some truth to it. That is like the use of the phony term "comprehensive immigration reform", which the American citizen realized meant amnesty. The people defeated that ridiculous attempt to scam the American taxpayer. Whatever the cost of deportation and the massive administrative workload, it is worth every penny. Actually, many illegals would probably go home voluntarily if we provided the funds. The savings in all the entitlement costs would make this task more than worthwhile. It would also clean up America by reducing gangs, ghettos, abandoned shopping carts, crime and non-English speaking hordes of sidewalk laborers. It might even be possible for someone to actually get treated in an emergency room.

The problem with any illegal is the same. It is just so abhorrent when there are millions of them trying to change the USA into their own country. The sheer numbers make the illegal Mexicans so intolerable, and many are arrogantly disrespectful of our culture, laws and language, professing overthrow of California and returning it to Mexico. This is treasonous talk. Oh, I forgot, they're not legal so they can do and say whatever they want. Send them all back and now!

"..."Jobs no one wants" is the pro-illegal mantra to try to make these criminals sound beneficial. Quite a few legals want to work as roofers, plumbers, carpenters, and the other trades that are being filled by these illegals.

Yes, you're right. For that reason, I don't use any examples with produce.

And yes, roofers, plumbers, etc are jobs that some Americans do probably want.

Slaughtering chickens? Slogging fast food? Cleaning bathrooms? Scrubbing floor at Wal-Mart? Not so much.

Although interesting, ancedotal stories about "illegal aliens" committing crimes is not really relevant to the problem of illegal immigration.

I live among many immigrants, some of whom are probably without proper documents, and the vast majority of them are hardworking good people who would love to be legal, who want to learn to speak English and who hope their children go to college.

They do not want to live here illegally; but they do want to live here - and for good reason. They cannot survive in their home country, and they have shown great courage and strength in trying to make a better life for themselves and their families.

You know, they are not now eligible for medi-caid or foodstamps or welfare. They do drive without insurance because they cannot get insurance or a driver's license. They want to come out of the shadows, but there is no process in place for that.

Many farmers do need them for seasonal work. They cannot get enough residents for that, but there is a reason for those in other trades to have concern about the illegal immigrants taking their jobs.

I don't have a solution, but I do want us to be smart, compassionate, and fair (and not afraid) in dealing with this issue.

But I would like to think I would at least attempt to do it legally or at least do my utmost to assimilate into my adopted culture once I settled.

Wouldn't you?

Actually, if the world worked the way it SHOULD rather than how it DOES, sure. Everyone should play by the rules.

But consider--the time to get a legal visa can literally be years. Seven years now for some countries. Longer for some.

Consider this, too--if we had the same tight, stringent requirements for getting into this country in the 1900s as we do today, 99% of the solid citizens now ******** about illegals would still be over in the Old Country.

"Jobs no one wants" is the pro-illegal mantra to try to make these criminals sound beneficial. Quite a few legals want to work as roofers, plumbers, carpenters, and the other trades that are being filled by these illegals. Yet, all the pro people talk about is picking produce. They try to use false reasoning to lull people into forgiving these criminals. If I rob a bank, does that qualify as an "undocumented withdrawal?"
