An Addiction To Internet Gaming Tore Apart One Woman's Life And Family
- Like what has been stated before, gaming, like anything in life, can be taken to extremes. The sad thing about all this is that those who don't know much about gaming assume that addiction occurs to everyone or at least most people. Also, gaming is like any form of entertainment and, honestly, isn't any worse than going outside or doing anything else for enjoyment. To say someone should go out and "socialize" just shows they don't have a true grasp of what actually happens in these games. You can't take this to extremes and ignore what's important because, like I've said before, it's just a form of entertainment like sports and watching tv. Although I do have to say, being an FFXI player myself, online gaming is far more interesting than going outside and the like and I can see how one might get a little too drawn in. These games are made for enjoyment and shouldn't be seen as a horrible, addicting thing as many seem to portray them. They are simply forms of enjoyment and just because whoever is playing them isn't doing "what you did as a child" and could be doing things that someone else thinks is a better use of FREE time doesn't mean it's wrong. It seems to me that everyone is claiming there is an addiction problem to this or that and all of the above these days, as if the whole world is addicted to something and, of course, addiction means enjoying something which is a bad thing! (sarcasm). Sorry got off topic. Anyways, as they say "everything in moderation."

- Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to post your input on this situation. As Kay has said, this is not a poor me story or me looking for sympathy. All of this is of my own doing and I accept that and will suffer the consequences of my actions. Melody, I applaud your understanding of the situation and thank you for the kind words.
This whole story has been a dark day in my life and one that I look forward to putting behind me.
If you think this is an isolated incidence, just a short visit to Gamerwidow.com will show you just a sample of how much of a problem this can become for people that can't control their gamming. I know this is not a problem for some but for others it can be a nightmare. If you find yourself in this nightmare, please get help before you let happen to you what we let happen to ourselves. - Reply to this comment

- Gaming is like almost anything else in life can be taken to the extreme. It's important to note, however, that anecdotal incidences of people like the ones in this story are just that %u2026. anecdotal. They are NOT the norm. Don%u2019t judge whole because of the behavior of a few.
I also take exception to people who say things like %u201CWhy not stop gaming and insert some activity that in their opinion is more worthwhile ?%u201D. To me this is just another in a long list of examples where people try and thrust their own values and beliefs on other people (I really wish we could stop this pestilence that poisons our society.). Having said that, in this particular case the parents clearly crossed the line but I would caution people not to make the same judgment about others even if they do have 40 days /played. - Reply to this comment
