As a creditable religion, Mormonism has only the facts of history standing in its way. It is a well known that Joseph Smith was a neer-do-well flim-flam man who received his inspiration from "Ummin" and "Thummin" (the seerstones he claimed "spoke" to him). And the list goes on from there. I wonder if any of Romney''s forebears were involved in the Mountain Meadows Massacre carried out by Brigham Young''s henchman against gentiles from Arkansas. Sorry, but Mormonism has too strange and wacky of a history for me to lend it any credence whatsoever. Mormonism is merely a long-surviving successful cult. My view has nothing to do with "religious bigotry." It''s just a reasoned view of history and the facts.

MylDonCBS, the logical extension of Mormonism''s preexistent creation doctrines is that Jesus and Satan are brothers but, this is rarely if ever mentioned by Mormons anymore. Personally, my absolute monotheism (one God only with no plurality whatsoever) rules out Mormonism but, it doesn''t give me or anyone the right to misrepresent Mormons like MylDonCBS unwittingly did. My February 1927 date came from a letter by Mormon Apostle Willard Richard asking that the Oath of Vengeance, the complete text is online, be removed from Mormon temples. Let me also say that separation of church and state as well as Romney''s non-religious accomplishments argue against using religion to disqualify Romney.

The Mormon religion is not a Christian sect or denomination -- it is a cult that originated under circumstances bearing remarkable similarities to the sects started by Jim Jones and David Koresh. Romney is of course free to continue believing in the long-discredited flat-out goofy precepts of a kooky cult that was started by a pedophile, adulterer and sexual deviant (Joseph Smith). But I will never vote for him or any other dyed in the wool Mormon. Any free thinking adult who accepts the Mormon theology as being a creditable religion has more than few screws loose.

What do missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS teach? It is no secret. But boy does it work to bless people''s lives. There is nothing that changes people for good faster, and more perminantly. They don''t just teach people faith in God, but how to really receive answers to your prayers. They know that strong societies are only as strong as its weakest families, and they focus much of what they teach on applying the Savior''s teachings to marriages and families. They help people actually apply the gospel to their lives so they can maxamize the influence and meaning their lives can have in doing good. They show you how to do it. It is one thing to read in the scriptures of serving God, and raising honest, strong, faithful children, but another thing to do it. They teach lame fathers that family responsibility is first, they teach alcoholics how to stop drinking with an effectiveness that would make AA envious. They preach strong marriages, help people discipline themselves out of debt. They teach that true strength comes from following Christ, and by obeying God''s commandments as Christ did as our perfect example. They teach that serving and blessing lives is more nobel than the kind of car you drive. They teach chastity before marriage, and total fidelity in marriage. They introduce the principles of the gospel which, if followed, result in the associated promised blessings.

One thing that was in the New York Times that this article conveniently left out was the fact that Romney marched along his father in the civil rights movement even before his mission to France. In fact his father George Romney opposed Goldwater because Goldwater didn''t support the civil right amendment.

Romney is an OUTSTANDING American. The man is a patriot in every sense of the word, and deceitfully characterizing him as a draft-dodger is pathetic. First, Jehovah is Jesus in Mormon theology. Lastly, the Mormons did fight the US Army after it was sent to Utah based on false rumors but, any animosity the Mormons had against the US died in the late 1800s or early 1900s.
