- And its not the government thats taking it away from you. Its a CEO in some far away boardroom. But of course, these loud mouthed talk radio hosts don't want us to think that. They want us to think: "Violation of free speech!"
Its almost like kind of a corporate welfare, how big these people have gotten. And really sad how quickly they fall back on the constitution, the thing that gave them their start, to defend getting rich. - Reply to this comment

- Everybody starts out small, see. They start out with a backyard radio transmitter. And if somebody likes them enough, they'll offer them a contract. But there's more than just fame and fortune gained by that contract. There's something lost.
There's the constitutional right for free speech thats lost. Because now you're in somebody's pocket. - Reply to this comment
- I'm not one of those fools that confuse talk radio with free speech. Its not. Free speech is by definition, sponsor free. Thats means no commercials .. *eyeroll*

- global_chick,
Do you know what the fairness doctrine is? It's not new.
Since the airwaves belong to the public, it used to be a requirement that political discussions on tv or radio had to present both sides of the issue.
When the fairness doctrine was abolished, talk radio was born. That's the whole point of talk radio, a rich corporation or individual can buy a station and present a one-sided view on a topic and say any lies they want and there's no limitation on them being able to do that.
Conservatives are predominant because the corporations that own the stations can keepout what they don't want broadcast. There's a liberal show hosted by a guy named Ed schultz. He's in 5-6 markets and he beats the *** out of Sean hannity's viewership in every one but he can't get on 200-300 stations like Hannity because he's getting the Dixie Chick treatment from the broadcasters.
If you watch Fox News Sunday(I do),you know that Juan Williams is the only one who provides a contrarian view. Would the show be better without him?
That's what the fairness doctrine is about;it's about improving free speech, not stifling it. - Reply to this comment

- if the u.s. feels china is more likely to feed the world because they've more people to feed it with, why then does the u.s. bar immigrants?
if the u.s. feels that people are more able to feed the world if people are paid to feed the world, why then does the u.s. pay to be taxed so they can best feed the world?
if the u.s. feels that ignorance of medicine is a crime, then why doest the u.s. make the stomach-surgeons passing out the burgers pay unpayable fees for medical training?
if the u.s. feels that spankings and wars are only good for mangling toddlers and infants and for aiding tyrants to run amuck, why then does the u.s. pay for dare and shock and awe and police protection? - Reply to this comment

- Okay, "Bong Hits for Jesus" will bring down western civilization but it's OK for the NRA, et al, to buy elections with their multi-million dollar "lie-vertisements" right up to election day. SHERMAN SET THE WAY-BACK!

- CBS Headline:...."The Supreme Court Veers Right"
SO!!!
The US Supreme Court has been veered to the "left" for the last forty years or so, and I don't recall CBS (or any liberal media) being upset about the leftward tilt.
it's about time the it went the conservatives' way for a while
