Author And Columnist Speaks About Fearmongering
- kailumego1 exactly sad part is way to many Americans either 1 don't care about their freedoms or 2 are too busy to help protect them or 3 don't know enough to know they should be afraid of what government can do where rights are concerned. And right on with George Orwell's book 1984 cause that is where we are heading maybe a number of years late but we are heading the exact direction because to few care to stand up to the government and say no you protect us as well as our rights. Don'tr strip our rights to the bone to protect us.

- The Republican tact always has been one of fear and hate. I don't get these people who call themselves Christian who are courted by republicans. They say they love God but then go on to support racism and fear of other human beings. These unforgiving God-fearing folk who say the Bible is everything support policies that harm the environment and make our world unsafe through war mongering and fear. Fear breeds more fear, and republicans sure know how to blow wind into the fire and lead in this fashion to remain in power. Republican policy is evil and the irony is that many true, loving Christians still remain unaware and buy into the hogwash.

- Right after FDR said:
"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."
He rounded up several hundred thousand Japanese, German, and Italian Americans and put them in camps. - Reply to this comment
- Right on Scottish26, you are so true.
There is a quote, from the movie "Ememy of the State", that puts this all in perspective "who's going to monitor the monitors". A lot of the bloggers whom have attached a partisan spin on this have failed to recognize not only will the government be monitoring the so-called terrorist, but you asf well.
Our country will become George Orwell's 1984 "BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU". So, when our government becomes a totalitarian I wonder what "garbage" these same individuals will be ranting and raving then. - Reply to this comment
- ustool1 good little sheeple following the Bush manure and fear thinking for yourself.

- Who is this lady, never heard of her and wouldn't have missed anything if I hadn't. I was just following up on the blogs for the GREAT AMERICAN HANNITY! So it's all the GOPs' fault......get a clue. I am voting my fears you bet! Fear that Godless hate America first Dems (dims!)get control again. We are just now starting to get the schools to take a fresh look at what they've done to our society.I agree with the other poster who suggested checking out this web site. It has been around quite some time and is very interesting reading. www.MEMRI.org.

- I agree with Ms. Huffington. The GOP's attempt to keep us scared and to keep us in line with the threat of fear is getting a little boring. Sometimes I wonder where the real threat comes from. Prior to attacking Iraq, Mr. Bush said (paraphrasing) those who agree with his decision he would consider as friends and those who disagreed he would consider as the enemy. That was a threat right there. Again, I believe the people of America need to begin to THINK for themselves and review the reign of Bush and consider where the real threat comes from.

- The worst terrorism we've had in US history is our own government. Are the terrorists restricting our freedoms or our own government. One of my favorite quotes actually is fictional by states so much. From a Star Trek the Next Generation episode (Drumhead)
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied -- chains us all, irrevocably."
Since 911 our own government has done more damage to our country and our freedoms then those planes did. Now if you say the wrong thing it's no longer free speech but a terrorist act. Before 911 it would have been free speech.
Remember freedom isn't free and we have to watch our own government at least as much if not more so then the terrorists hiding in caves. It's the governments job to watch then it's our job to watch our government. - Reply to this comment
- "The only real threat of terrorism lies at home".....Once again people forget about the worst attack on our soil in our countries history. Maybe if the left would give some solutions instead of going off on their hate Bush theories we could take them more seriously. Facts ladies and gentlemen, enough theory. We were attacked, we were not worried about "Iraq marching over here" but they may give weopons to the wrong people (and you're leaders also agreed and voted for the war), we need to win against our enemy and a battle field is necessary, why not remove a dictator and fight them there instead of NY? I know many people disagree with this and thats fine, it's America, but back your argument up with facts, not "if you love America you should hate Bush and his neo-con regime more than Bin Laden"...thats just ridiculous.

- Please see MEMRI.ORG new documentary on the Arab press and TV, 9 11 , five years later. (MEMRI translates Arab press, and TV to English).
Watch what they are saying about us and 9 11, and then decide for yourself. - Reply to this comment
- Stupid Chumps for Bush:
Why do you stand by this cretan as he runs our country into the ground? He exploited 9-11 to make you believe his Iraq LIES and then Invaded a coutry that was NOT a threat. He pulled our troops off Afghanistan and let Bin Laden go. He lowers taxes for the very wealthy (his true constituency), tries to steal your social security, and you just keep coming back for more abuse!
Get a CLUE! The NeoCons play on your so-called patriotism and hype on your fears to get their way. Get yourselves some FACTS. READ SOME BOOKS by FORMER REPUBLICANS. Try Scott Ritter, ex-marine UN weapons inspector. Try Terry Drumheller - chief of CIA operations in Europe. and on and on... Instead you stay plugged into the FOX propoganda, heads in the sand, just the way Bush likes you - easy to manipulate. - Reply to this comment
- Why is CBS having all these anti-war people on NOW??
It is four years too late. CBS should have been interviewing them BEFORE the Bush Invasion of Iraq. Instead, CBS was cheerleading Bush into his needless, horrific War OF Terror.
If you love America you should fear Bush and his NeoCon regime more then Bin Laden! It is Bush Co. who have hijacked the GOP and our country. His rule is based on fear, lies, hate and war -- and it is destroying my country!
Lets throw Bush and CHeney in JAIL where they belong! - Reply to this comment
- %u201CThe Russians are going and the Iraqis are coming%u201D
It's always interesting how things play out, when the only real threat of terrorism lies at right at home.
We have two young men sending hypothetical bomb threats over the E-mail, composing what if scenarios for their own narcissistic amusement, while individuals argue about Iraq marching over here with a chemical weapon and blowing Americans to %u201Cbits. How far fetch is that!!!!
Which by the way has less of a chance of happening than the events in the movie %u201CDay After Tomorrow%u201D.
I wonder how was Saddam Hussein going to manage smuggling a nuclear weapon in the U.S.?
This is the exact same type of propaganda used during the %u201CCold-War%u201D, the practice air raids, and the bombardment of commercials all aimed in scaring the h#$# out of Americans for their own personal gains. Some people are so gullible!! - Reply to this comment
- They even made several movies to play off the charade, and had Americans hyped up, let%u2019s kill those Russians. But it was the movie %u201CThe Sum of All Fears%u201D that said it best, the villains played upon Americans paranoid fear of a possible Russian invasion, blowing up a stadium filled with thousands of people, thereby setting the stage for a nuclear %u201CHolocaust%u201D, while like a Charlie Manson scheme, wait until the smokes clear, as the real %u201Caxis of evil%u201D takes control.
And now they are selling the same propaganda, singing the same song, only this time instead of the Russians, it%u2019s the Iraqis, and again people are buying it %u201Chook-line-and-sinker%u201D.
We had no more fear of a Russian invasion then, as we have no fear of an Iraqi invasion.
Well I wonder what will it be in the next five years, %u201CGODZZILA IS LANDING%u201D???
I%u2019m quite sure those same paranoid fear mongers will be waiting in the wind.
I%u2019m so glad that Bush wasn%u2019t the president during the %u201CCuban Missile Crisis%u201D, for his leaping before thinking would have gotten us WWIII. - Reply to this comment
- Should we also apply the Huffington fearmongering warning to those who wage fear campaigns in regards to: global climate change, evangelical Christians, the Neocon Jews, Republicans, conservatives, President Bush, fellow citizens, rednecks, pro-lifers?.... aw ***, the list goes on and on. She does the exact same thing that Hannity and Limbaugh do, but she's not as smart. Huffington and her website is a classic example of fear mongering amongst gullible liberals. She is getting rich, rich, rich, off of her fear campaigns. Idiots.

- The use of fear for political gain is what Arianna Huffington was addressing. The use of fear tactics by the GOP in their latest political ad, is by definition, terrorism. I find it appalling that anyone would use fear and footage that was made by other terrorist in their political ads. We must now fight domestic terrorism on our home soil, all thanks to the GOP.

- Hey Arianna...The only thing we have to fear is people like you. Your way of thinking will be the undoing of this great country which you hate so much. I will tell you the same thing I told Katie

- Ms Huffington may feel that the GOP is using fear to help their campaign but it is hard not to do so when trying to make people understand that the Dems have no valid stance on terrorism. Waiting until we get hit over and over again just leaves americans dead. Its simple. Republicans want to do everything within the their power to keep terrorist acts from happening. Democrats want to isolate the country and let local law enforcement try and keep us safe. The fact that they want to try terrorist in public court and give them civilian rights is proof of that.
