- It is not the Republican party's problem if an unwanted pregnancy occurs. Ever heard of personal responsibility? Birth control is available to easily anymore...what young person is going to not take it because Republicans teach abstinence? LOL.
If you don't want a child, keep the legs closed or use protection. What is up with the willingness to so easily pass the buck in America anymore? Don't want to work? Get food stamps. Get pregnant unplanned? Blame Republicans. Don't like your boss? Blame the company and go shoot it up. Get real. You and you alone decide how to lead your life!! - Reply to this comment
- Very well said! The only shameful fact of the whole situation are due to those that DO abuse the system for their own gain.
----------------------------------
I remember back when I was a boy and my father had a heart attack. He was the sole provider our family. He was out of work for six months. My mother took a job as a telephone operator, but we still had to go on food stamps. They didn't like it, they were very conservative and proud people, but the truth is, it kept us from starving to death.
Today, I make more money than my father ever dreamed. But I will never forget those tough years. And I will never look down on anyone that needs help to keep from going hungry. There will always be those who abuse any system, there's nothing we can do about that. But for the millions of folks who truly are going through hard times, I say God bless you and God bless those that care about you.

- P.S.
As far as food stamp program we need them and need them to work to feed a whole family. You hope that you do not need it but the world is moving fast and you could be out of a job today, this month or this year. As times get harder (or you get older) the longer it takes to get a job. Will it pay the same probably not it will pay less and you may need food stamps to get by. - Reply to this comment

- You know, it's people like you who perpetuate this whole mess. You buy one large chicken on sale and roast, $8.00, you get one large chuck or bottom round roast ON SALE, $7.00, you buy one bulk pack of ground beef, ON SALE for $1.99, about $10.00, there is $25. You can get more than one meal out of each of those items, you can stretch it. You buy a bulk package of plain potatoes and a bag of onions. You get a bulk package of pasta. You take the roast and have roast beef with mashed potatoes one night, then hot roast beef sandwiches the next. I found a bread machine at Goodwill for $11, get a big bag of flour and bulk yeast; make all the bread, it takes 10 minutes to set the machine. The ground beef can be used for three meals (at one large 5 pound bulk pack, you could make 5 meals, one beef, onion and potato skillet, meatballs, tacos, I mean come on. If you WORK AT IT and actually COOK, your $1 theory is insane.

I do not know where you live, but I am moving there. $1.99 for ground beef? $8 for a roast? $7 for a whole roaster chicken? Where I am we don't see prices like that. A lb of bulk ground beef here starts at $2.79 for 70/30. A roast goes for $9 and up a lb. A 10 or 20 lb bag of potatoes, omg, $10 to $15 if you can catch them on sale, which is very rare. Fresh fruits and vegetables, again, sky high. Oranges $1 each, Apples $1 each. A head of lettuce is $1 a lb. Fresh corn on the cob, $1 an ear. Fresh green beans are almost $5 a lb. These are the prices most people are paying. This year I have decided to plant a container garden just so we can have the fresh fruits and vegetables without going broke. - Reply to this comment

- $329 a month for four people works out to less than a dollar a meal per person. Find me anyone who can feed any size family a decent diet for that less than $ 1 per person per meal. Posted by Hermotimus at 10:38 AM

- Republican Mantra: We will not teach you about birth control to prevent unwanted pregnancies, We only teach abstinence. We do not want you having an abortion, if you get pregnant you must have the child. We do not want to pay for the social programs that are required as a result from the unwanted pregnancies that result from our failed abstinence programs. Once they are born they are not our problem.

- Right wingers will be screaming "welfare cheat!" while the wealth fare crowd gets their millions in bonuses and massage retreats. It may not be their reluctance to help others, but their selfishness that it not be done with any of their tax dollars. Do it with the dollars from the wealthy, they can afford it.
